i'm trying to decide between the p-350 or an 870. will be used for chicken, geese, and skeet. leaning toward the stoeger, as i hear it's basically a benelli. please let me know your opinions

They are both very good for the money. If you know someone who has them it would be best to shoot and compare. The next best would be to have dealer show them to you side by side. They are both good quality so I would decide by the one that feels the best in your hands and feels the best when it is shouldered.

You have several options that I can think of:

Remington 870 Express or Express Magnum
Mossberg 500
Mossberg 535
Mossberg 835
Maverick 88
H&R Pump Action (Toronto Bass Pro has them on sale for $199.99)
Possibly a Norinco HP9 (870 Clone), if they come with choke tubes.

The Express Magnum, Mossberg 535 and 835 can handle 3.5" shells that might come in handy for some goose and turkey applications. I believe that the Mossberg 500 and 535 combos also come with three choke tubes, as opposed to the single modified tube that comes with the Express and Mossberg 835 shotguns. The 535 combo with 28" VR barrel, three chokes and a rifled barrel with sights is probably the most economical way to equip a new hunter for most types of game.

I am not very familiar with the P350, though I've also heard that they are derived from a Benelli design. Not knowing much more, I'd look at factors such as the number of choke tubes that come with the gun, whether it can shoot 3.5" shells, how it fits you and whether you prefer the synthetic over a wood stock.

Best of Luck,

Frank

mossberg line up is fine. rem 870 is fine even a good used BPS or ithaca 37 is fine. the benefit of the mossy, rem or BPS is the choice of choke tubes. of the group the maverick is the least expensive.

for the record the p-350 is 369.99 at wholesale sports with 5 choke tubes and 3.5 capable, 870 capable of 3.5 is 399.99 with one choke.

I don't think you'll get a clear answer to this question. People have their preferences and will fight to the death defending them.

If you can, go try them both out and see which you like. You can't really go wrong with either choice, your best bet is finding which one fits you best.
