I think the Norinco guys should get a room. ;)

Any AR you need to buy butt loads of spare barrels, bolts etc is money better saved and spent on a better quality rifle.

Still think there's a lot other AR's I would consider over the chosen for the suggested budget. However I voted Noveske, just cause.

Which one is better...SIG 516(DI) or PWS MK114 (piston)?

that question is pretty hard to answer, as you are comparing apples to oranges. i would suggest you decide on either piston or D/I, and start a list from there.

for a piston AR, i would get the H/K MR223A1 and never look back.

for D/I, Noveske all the way.

KAC is a gorgeous rifle as well, but i just can't get past the proprietary bolt system.

Sorry it was a typo. The correct question is SIG 516(piston) vs PWS mk114 (piston).

Also, which one is better SIG 516 vs PWS Mk114 vs LMT CQB MRP?

The only place you can take that AR is to a restricted range, and pretty much all you can do is punch holes in paper with the thing. Therefore, I don't see why you have to sink gobs of money into it. Tier 1, 2, and 3 means nothing in Canada, unless you're a LEO going into harm's way with the AR. As for zombie outbreaks, I saw on Walking Dead that a crossbow worked really, really good!!

Buy a Norc, upgrade the parts as needed, and save your money for a few extra barrels, bolt parts, mags and lots of Norc yellow box.

as much as i have agreed with some of your statements on other threads, on this one i respectfully have to disagree.
I have a Norinco, LMT, Noveske, H&K, Colt, NEA, not to mention a few other brands, and there is a difference. Norinco is the budget minded "Hyundai" of AR's, it will usually get you where you need to go but it just isn't a great ride. If you have the extra cash to get a higher end rifle, then by all means do it. Most of us do this sport because we enjoy it and not because we need or have to, you should buy what makes you happy and not what is practical. If we went by the "get what you need and not what you want" rationale, then we should all sell our AR's and go get some cheap bolt action 22LR's, because were just punching paper...right?

To non trolls, I was reading about LMT and I like the idea you can switch between piston and DI. Any idea who has 14.5" in stock? Probably no body lol

You can also change out the barrel in two minutes. I bought a SS 16" mike rock 5R barrel for mine. When they were on sale the LMT mrp was one heck of a deal. Prices have gone up though. Questar sells them. Maybe irunguns can get them. I opted for the export version. 223 and no flash hider. Significant savings and can always add later for $100 or so. In my case source out a SS barrel.

I actually avoid piston AR rifles like the plague. See piston vs DI threads. That being said I like the ADCOR elite a lot. They aren't well known.

The best AR? Doesn't exist. There are two many options and uses. I like Armalite for an all around gun, Stag as a military/Police rifle you won't cry about scratching, LMT mrp for the quality and features along with price point for a high end gun. I like KAC for their lowers and design. Nice rifles just I find the price too high and for my purposes it's not the best choice. If I were to have only one AR15 then the KAC would probably be my choice as it's excellent overall. That being said the ADCOR has my attention based on it's engineering for an overall design.

As for the Norinco. Mediocre fit/finish but great price and that hammer forged barrel shoots. I've seen one shoot when free floated and decent ammo was used. Bottom line in terms of accuracy you aren't at a disadvantage to any other AR with a non SS match barrel. Providing the barrel is free floated, the trigger decent and the ammo matched to the specific barrel. The KAC, ADCOR, LMT, Stag etc won't offer any significant accuracy advantages unless you go to a match grade barrel. It's a good gateway AR that will give shooters a cost effective way to shoot well. You won't cry over scratches on "precious" or high round counts. Personally I prefer paying more for American made with better fit/finish. But wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to someone wanting an AR but having difficulty justifying the price. New guys to guns with wives/new families comes to mind. It will get them started.

Sig 516 would be my first choice if I could get one made in Germany, but from what you have there...i really like the PWS..

I still suggest youtake a closer look at the H&K MR223A1 if your thinking piston.

KAC and H&K is out of my budget I am willing to spend so......

I am thinking of combining LMT CQB MRP upper with SIG 516 lower. What do you think?

What's wrong with having the whole sig516? I absolutely love mine

Nothing is wrong except I can't find the barrel length that I want. Only 16" available. So if I buy an upper then I can have two guns within one lower really. One for CQB and the other is just standard 16"

I own a few LMT's and they are great rifles, great quality without the boutique price. My advice would be to keep it all LMT, as you tend to get a better resale on a complete factory build....
I don't think you would have any buyers remorse if you were to go with LMT, and they are plenty ###y with a great fit and finish.

LMT is a serious company that has a great reputation with Mil Contracts and they are in close relations with KAC....I would have no problem taking there rifles anywhere in harms way...

If I decide to go with SIG lower and LMT upper, do you think you there is hideous color difference between the two finishes?

I was watching a LMT video review on youtube. The guy have a complete LMT rifle upper and lower but for some reason the upper one look glossy that the bottom one.

i couldn't say with 100% certainty, but it is something you may have to be prepared to deal with. when you purchase a complete rifle from any of the reputable makers, they do make an effort to ensure the fit and finish of the upper/lower is desirable and it matches up well. sourcing out uppers and lowers separately, (even from the same manufacturer) can have very different finishes....

Which LEO's in Canada are putting their life on the line and using personally own AR's to protect it?

Sometimes people just like nice things.

Don't build a Franken-gun for your first AR, you don't have the knowledge if things don't go well. Mixing two great guns won't necessarily make you a better gun. Buy a full factory gun a LMT, a Noveske, KAC, DD, Colt you'll be happy.
