I did IPSC for awhile, but got a little tired of the 'gaming' and unreal scenarios.
I'm taking some 'time off' from rifles for awhile, and thought about doing some IDPA matches...more real world...? more relevant...
I've got the spectrum of pistols covered in my 'armory'....just wanted to touch base and see what people think would be the 'ideal' unit for the job.
Is is a plain jane G17...maybe a 1911 in 38Super or 45ACP..perhaps a P7M8?
Let me/us know what you think is the 'ideal gun for IPSC'...and support your choice.

"?Best Choice for IDPA" all depends on what class you want to run in. The requirement are such that "one size" will not fit all.

For SSP I'd say it's hard to beat a striker gun like the M&P/Glock/XD.

If you've got a bunch of guns, figure out which one you want to shoot the most and what class it fits in.

the question is what do you want to get out of IDPA, do you want to practice with a duty typegun, a revolver or the vaunted 1911.

then you have your classes, SSP, ESP, CDP, SSR and ESR..... basically depending onthe class some minor modifications are allowed but the rule book is the best source what is allowed.

your best bet is just to get out thereand shoot..... bring whatever gun/holster and mag pouch you got and just shoot it for fun, nobody is going to turn you away because you brought the wrong gun....hell we have one guy who shoots every night with a .22 colt woodsman and has a ball.

:)

...then you have your classes, SSP, ESP, CDP, SSR and ESR.....

First of all, SSP, ESP, etc. are 'Divisions' (NV, MM, SS, etc. are 'Classes').

For SSP I'd say it's hard to beat a striker gun like the M&P/Glock/XD.

Secondly, while the M&P and Glock do fit in SSP (depending on any modifications), the XD is considered 'single action' by IDPA and is therefore an ESP gun (or CDP if chambered in .45 ACP).
