Best choke to use

I'm using Full in my 20ga field gun (for trap) and my 12ga Citori XT. At some point I found a poll on here that someone started asking this same question and IM was first, followed very closely by Full. Distant 3rd was Mod.

Most people are over choked when shooting trap...especially beginners. From 16 to 19 yards Light Modified works best. Modified is great from 20 to 23 yards. Improved Modified and Full are best kept for 24 to 27 yards. For doubles trap, Improved Cylinder for your first shot and Modified for the second. I'm a quick doubles shooter and I actually use Skeet and Imp. Cyl. in my Browning Cynergy. I go with an Imp. Cyl. choke in my Remington 870 again for doubles.

How far in front of the trap house are you breaking the 1st target with the skeet choke?I find my reaction time is not that good:redface:.so I shoot full in the top barrel of 725 sporting and imp mod in the bottom .the full is an absolute clay grinder if I do my job.

Mod or IM. Research shows that any choke longer than 2in improves patterning by up to 25%. Any aftermarket choke will perform better than factory chokes that came in your gun. Carlson offers inexpensive chokes for a fraction of what Brileys will cost you.
