I'm in the process of building out a do-it-all 870, and the best way to make one gun do it all is a selection of chokes ... If you were buying new chokes, which brands would you be looking at? I have spent hours in the bass pro choke aisle reading, and the only thing I can say for sure ... The big names in chokes spend a lot on marketing.

My only experience with chokes so far in life has been Carlson's IC and their coyote choke.

As someone who has tried a a whole lot of brands, I can tell you marketing doesn't hit targets. Factory Remington are fine. If you insist on aftermarket then Briley or Carlson's will work great.

An 870? Remchokes in Skeet, I/C, Modified, Full and Turkey will do everything you need. If absolutely need "the best" Briley or Muller, expect to pay accordingly.

I agree. I've used lots of different chokes over the years and I can tell you that most will give you acceptable results but those results will vary with different ammunition. Briley chokes were my favorites until I tried Muller and I do believe they are superior to anything else but they do have some draw backs such as price and the fact that you need to be careful with them not to chip the ceramic coating. You also have to be careful of what chemicals you use on them for cleaning, the upside to that is that they don't build up with plastic from the wads like most other chokes do.

No matter what you buy, you still have to pattern it for yourself. Start with a $30 Remington choke, and compare it to the results of a $70 or $100 choke.
