Best cowboy lever gun for the money

Got a Rossi M92 octogonal 24 inch barrel with the metallic cresent in the stock, love the cowboy look of it and it is a pretty good shooter... JP.

I have the same one in the short rifle (20" bbl). Lever it with authority and it will serve you well.:)

Caramel, I have the exact same gun. We don't need no stinking safeties! :p

Cowboy Shootist had it right, you gotta punch that lever to get it to elevate.

I'd say the Rossi 92 is a good entry gun if you don't want to break the bank, but if you do have the funds, those 73s are pretty sweet.

Don't fall into that trap and settle for what you can find. Stoeger Canada is the importer for Uberti. Go to the Uberti site, find the one you want (make sure it holds 10 rounds in the mag tube of the caliber you want) and order it from your dealer of choice (anyone who sells Beretta or IGA can get for you). I recommend staying at a 20" to 24" max barrel length. Blued is good if you are around a lot of BP shooters, otherwise the case coloured looks great. Octagon barrels are the cats meow, but the round ones look nice too. There are many, just pick one you think you will be happy with.

With patience I found a Uberti 73 w/ 20" octagon barrel (just what I was looking for), I'm glad I didn't settle!

whats your thoughts on having your lever action rifle and your single action pistol using the same round? is this something many people do?

Most cowboy shooters use the same cartridge in their rifle and handgun, it eliminates confusion at the loading table, where you load for the stage your shooting.

Tuco: You picked a good one. The toggle link actions are good right out of the box.
What calibre did you buy?

45 Colt, as that is what my pistols are. I also use it for Wild Bunch so it needs to be over 40 anyway. Just got a lightning for Wild Bunch in 45 Colt, so we'll see how that one works. She is a nice rifle.

I only shoot .38 sp and love the look of the Yellow Boy so I went with the Uberti 1866. Not cheap but worth every penny - looks great and shoots MUCH better than me :D

GREAT looking gun. And she will use the same short stroke kit as the 1873's.

Tuco, I've only seen one shooter out of 4-5 that I have seen using the lightning successfully. I wish you luck. I've had to delay the delivery of my Uberti as I am currently on my way down to Cody to shoot down there. Hopefully I see it the week after I get it back.
