best coyote gun for under $900

Why be limited to one rifle, i`m looking at a Kel Tec su16. Minute of coyote and a fast second shot when multipls come in. Kind of like buying shop tools, different ones for different jobs. Unless you use a multipurpose adjustable metric hammer for everything, sounds like something Sksavenger would do. And we have gone hunting together and not shot the other yet.

x100, beautiful little rifles. Plus, it doesn't come in 22-250, so you won't be tempted/able to blow yote bits all over hell's half acre. If you really want to maximize your damage, the .204 is an interesting cartridge. If you want to reload for cheap and buy factory ammo for cheap, the .223 is where it's at. Unless you're shooting them at 500 yards, you're probably better off. Also, what if a nice fox, bobcat or lynx comes in to your calls? That's an awful waste of hundreds of dollars worth of pelts.

The Savage 25 Lightweight Varminter T comes in .204 Ruger, .222, .223, .22 Hornet, and 17 Hornet due out in 2012 sometime, and MSRP is around $700-800 (think it was $725 @ the gun centre here in KW).

I held it and it shouldered nicely...good balance and I liked the double swivel stud on the front. I know anyone can put in a second swivel stud, but just that it comes out of the factory like that really heavily implies that this gun was built for a bipod and long-range shooting. It came highly recommended when I was in the market for a coyote rifle (in .204 ruger) but I was buying it on short notice for a hunt a few days from then and it was out of my price range at the time.

Still, the folks at the store and customers too spoke highly of it. Might be worth a look.

The Sako & tikka will out shoot the others, but not by alot. I like to take the mini 14 when sitting in big fields overlooking bushline and calling.... They all work well and I'm sure you will agree that finding the rifle for your needs and buying the rifle that fits you the best is an important factor. Good luck with what ever you buy!

So, with money saved there you can upgrade the scope and buy some ammo of your choice.

Go with the Savage in a .223 or .243. Very accurate and a .243 is adequate in the wind.

Way more options and additional toys available, a "real" short action not a pinned long action, no plastic, and sanely priced.

Easy to change caliber/barrels with or without gunsmith.

If weight is a consideration, hire a caddy or purchase an Eberlestock

The Tikka is overpriced based on comparable quality and features.

The Savage Predator model is a sweet pkg for the $$$. A friend bought one (he owns Sako rifles too) ....this Savage is impressive. His is in winter camo.

I have the 12 BTVSS in 223for $799, same as the FV except stainless and thumbhole stock. Didn't like cheap fmj ammo but sure likes 55 grain vmax handloads, shoots nickels at 100 yards, trying to get it down to dimes. You won't be sorry.

I know WSS was selling the no longer in prodution Vanguard Sub Moa for $670. I got one in a 223. It's got aluminum pillars and it's glass bedded in a sturdy stock.
Super accurate and a nice action. Reasonable trigger. Nice looking rig.

I'll be lucky to have 1 run in. I'm in ontario farm country with small bush lots and fields. I do a lot of walking. I was thinking about the rugger mini14 in 223 but gave up on it because many said it was not accurate.

If I am calling, I like my 243 in Savage Predator 1. Blows holes in the hides though and not a nice rifle to pack around all day.

I use my Ruger mini-14 for the bush stuff (walking, always on the move or truck gun). I load it with nosler 55 gr and 748 powder. It is a pretty accurate load.

Bought a new stock for it (pics on other post), so going to try it out when seeking out dens this spring. Seems solid enough and will post a range report. With the standard stock, it is a terrific little hunter!
