Best CZ variant? (which sp-01?)

Congrats on your purchase....reg shadow does all that I can do....tis an awesome pistol...however I do love those Canadian grips!!

I got the Shadow Mate as a gift to myself after shooting the regular SP-01 for two years. There is really a negligible difference between the out of the box Shadow Mate and my worked in SP01. Maybe a lb or so difference in D/A and the recoil is a tad more manageable in the Shadow Mate. I probably will have to work the Mate in more and replace the mainspring to feel like it was a noticeable advantage. I actually prefer the single fibre front sight to the Shadow Mate's three dots. Still, I had the money to splurge and it is a beauty.

@O/P -Should have bought the top shelf Canadian edition, once you start upgrading you will be at near the same price tag, without all the hand fitted parts.
@ Silveragent - swap out the rear FOs for a different color, makes a huge difference

Agree I had a chance to try a set on a friends Shadow it was very nice felt good in the hand, anyone know where there is stock of them at a decent price?

@Slavex, I actually bought the replacement stock rears to swap out the two rear dots but that's an interesting suggestion. I have different color fibre I could put in.

Shadow is my favourite sight picture.....red fo front, plain black rear...changing all my pistols to this format now...super easy front post acquisition for me....don't hoot in the dark, so I don't need true glow..

The CZ75 Shadow comes with 16 pound recoil and main springs, a plastic guide rod, and no recoil buffer...as well the hammer isn't a perfect design.
For minimal dollars from dlaskarms.com you can get the stainless steel guide rod with recoil buffer, competition hammer, 13 pound recoil spring, 13 pound main spring that also comes with a lighter firing pin spring, and also change the grips if you want. Everything is on their site, and they just received a big shipment in from the Czech Republic so now is the perfect time to shop! My Shadow is an awesome shooter with the mods...I'm now thinking of an LPA adjustable rear sight, but I heard it's very hard to tap the rear sight out of a CZ75 Shadow...they're in there super tight! Anyone replace their rear sight?

I'm heading down to the factory in UB on Wednesday to grab some parts for the this season and next. will also be talking with them about future upgrades to the pistol, like we did a few years ago and the Orange and Shadowmates were the result. Not just me, but a few of us spent a couple days looking at stuff and answering questions. looking forward to next week

Can anyone with solid IPSC knowledge say if any of these mods are legal for production or would that put you in open?

Hopefully this helps...

APPENDIX D4: Production Division

16. Original parts and components offered by the OFM as standard equipment, or as an option, for a specific model
handgun on the IPSC approved handgun list are permitted, subject to the following:

16.1 Modifications to them, other than minor detailing (the removal of burrs and/or adjustments unavoidably
required in order to fit replacement OFM parts or components), are prohibited. Other prohibited
modifications include those which facilitate faster reloading (e.g. flared, enlarged and/or add-on
magwells, etc.), changing the original color and/or finish of a handgun, and/or adding stripes, stippling or
other embellishments.

16.2 Magazines accessible to a competitor during a COF must not contain more than 15 rounds at the Start
Signal. Identifying marks or decals, internal capacity limiters, bumper pads and additional witness holes,
which add or remove negligible weight to/from magazines, are permitted.

16.3 Sights may be trimmed, adjusted and/or have colors applied. Sights may also be fitted with fiber optic or
similar inserts.

17. Aftermarket parts, components and accessories are prohibited, except as follows:

17.1 Aftermarket magazines are permitted, subject to 16.2 above.

17.2 Aftermarket open sights (see Rule 5.1.3.1) are permitted, provided their installation and/or adjustment
requires no alteration to the handgun.

17.3 Aftermarket grip panels which match the profile and contours of the OFM standard or optional grip
panels for the approved handgun and/or the application of tape on grips (see Appendix E3a) are
permitted. However, rubber sleeves are prohibited.

I heard it's very hard to tap the rear sight out of a CZ75 Shadow...they're in there super tight! Anyone replace their rear sight?

Actually I tried to do this before the last qualifier and I lost my nerve after it wouldn't budge after a few strikes of the hammer. Yes I removed the set screw.

I did crap at the qualifier.. Not making an excuses or nothing ...

Weird, mine literally slides in (from the left) with no resistance at all. I had to remove mine because (I assume) the previous owner a) tried to drift out the rear sight without removing the set screw, and b) stripped the thread by over tightening. I had to remove it, drill it, re-tap it and lock tight it which was the hardest part because it had so much free play it was hard to keep it still.

I've got all these mods ready to install except for the hammer. I wasn't sure about the hammer is the best of the ones they sell... The spurless competition hammer?

Thanks Silveragent and DasJager, I'll try it and make sure the set screw is out first. I picked up an LPA adjustable rear sight for my Shadow. RLJ, I phoned Dlask and they said for single/double action Shadows there is one competition hammer recommended, and that's the one I bought and installed...you'll have to call them on that. I can tell you my pistol shoots like a dream with the mods.
