best deal on 2 3/4" shells

Federal and Winchester are in the midst of a price war on their target ammo and are selling below their cost --- buy the Federal --- Winchester quality (sizeing etc.. ) leaves much to be desired. You can usually find them $55.00 a flat.

I've found the challenger target loads to be a lot more reliable then the cheap winchester stuff. Only a bit more expensive, so I'd say it is a viable alternative.

whereabouts are you located?

Looking for target loads, no lebarons down here :-(.

Madness, You're in Windsor aren't you? If so, closest, cheapest to you is G&K Archery in Wallaceburg at $58 a flat for Top Guns. Other than that the next best is Lawry and Hummason at $55 a flat but the drive to Ancaster/Caledonia is gonna cost you. Lawry is Federal and Hummason's is Winchester.

I personally like Challenger -- they shoot clean and work great in semi's as well as hinge break guns -- Hi quality target stuff at between 65 & $70.00

It's great stuff, but I have never seen it for sale at a reasonable price in Alberta. The Calgary Firearms Centre sell it for over $9.00/box as a convenience for those who do not bring their own. I have tried it and have loaded the hulls. Seems about the same quality as Kent.

Kent and Challenger both load with Cheddite hulls from France I believe. The aformentioned companies don't make their own hulls.

I shoot many flats of the Federal Top Guns each year. Yes, they are not the cleanest burning but for 65 bucks a flat I'll run a brush through my barrel another time or two!

Federal makes some real quality ammo. My favorite was the Federal Champion paper shells. They were the softest shooting target load I have ever fired.

Winchester has gone away from the traditional "compression formed" AA hull to some two piece thing. I think the best ammo on the market...target fodder that is...has to be the Remington STS line.

STS line are very good, but not cheap. About the same price point as AA and Gold Medal. I still shoot quite a few top guns because I get them for cheap, but limit them to my break action guns. They are pure crud in a gas autoloader.
