Part of the reason for the price in creases IS the poor price of the USD. Many of the raw materials are mined here in Canada. When our dollar goes up, so does the price of the raw materials, and eventually the final product.
Value of the dollar notwithstanding, the metals DO have a relatively stable value. If the value of the dollar goes down, but the value of the metal stays the same, then essentially you end up paying more dollars for the same amount of metal. Which is what's happening.
