best deer bullet for .243?

Being a Barnes TSX aficionado, I tout the 85 gr TSX in .243 Win. The one bullet I recovered, from just under the hide on the far side, exhibited textbook performance. Four perfect 'petals' with 100% weight retention. I only hunt with lead-free bullets now...

me too.....

1. 100% weight retention
2. no pollution
3. my friends will thank me if I tell them it was kill by a non-lead bullets...otherwise I would be looked upon as a "poisoner"...

There's quite a bit around the worldly web on the topic of 6mm deer bullets, but I'm never sure if guys on US sites are talking about 90#deer or actual 200+# critters like we (hope to) run into up here. So let's hear some real Canadian experience with "deer" bullets in the .243 (and similar MV 6mm's). My apologies to those bursting with internet opinions, but I'm looking for first hand or direct witness feedback. ;)

So... what deer have you shot with .243/6mm and how did it work out?

Neck shot one a Fallow Deer (doe) Sydney Island...Federal BlueBox 100grn .
One shot, one kill....30 yrds.
Works for me.

I have had very good success with hand loads using barnes tsx coppers Have yet to find a bullet and animals never went past 30 ft in general

I duno tho, where did your 7m08 bullet impact the bear?

a neck shot is a neck shot but is a pretty specific shot placement story.

that could be the difference..
And this is why "bang/flop" and "drt" etc are useless terms without knowing where the bullet hit lol. Same with head shots.

The internals look much different than any other bullet?

With the fast twist 243s out there a bit more commonly now (ie: Tikka) besides 6mm CM, I'm really curious about the 95gr LRX.

Whatever heavier grain soft point or copper bullet your rifle likes.
Your rifle accuracy will decide that.
One of mine loves copper
Another has 4 inch groups with it.
It all depends.

95gr Ballistic Tip for me. Love that bullet! I tried it behind Magnum though, terrible consistency (standard deviation of 20). Have some N555 to try, hoping for typical Finnish excellence with the next attempt.

95 gr partitions have killed everything from WT to MD to cow elk for us. Run them about 3k fps and if you put it through the vitals nothing lives long. We have killed MD does with 100 gr interlocks as well with little performance difference from the PTs. All shots have been inside 350yds.

I don’t like lead spread through my game (old meet is all we eat, I have a young kid). So copper gets the vote for me. I have some 80 GMX’s, when those run out it’ll be Barnes TTSX’s
