Best deer caliber

Depends on what type of deer hunting. Hunting out east will be different to hunting out west. I would rather have a cartridge that's capable of reaching out and it will certainly work at close range as well. A big mule deer buck can go 300+lbs and shots where I hunt could be 400+yds. That's what I base my cartridge choice on. Also, I want a cartridge that's capable of larger game such as elk or moose. So my choice really isn't a pure deer rifle. jmo.

Hey guys just for fun what do you guys think is the best deer caliber im thinking of getting a 270

The one that YOU can hit the boiler room with enough power to kill. They are endless lists of cal. that fill that bill.
Last week @ my deer camp 4 deer where killed with 1 shot from ; .308 , .30-30 , .250 Sav. , .270.

30-06 with some form of 180 grain flavor will kill everything at short or fairly extended ranges. Ammo available literally anywhere that carries ammunition. The 180's will also straight line through some nasty stuff and land on target (round nose moreso) doesn't kick like a mule, and they're made in every action made today, yesterday and tomorrow. But get a pump rifle if you wanna be one of the cool kids

Rather be cave man than somebody with a superiority complex and a stick forever lodged up my bunger :d

Ouch... hit a nerve? Have a strong attachment to pump guns? Kicked your puppy? Slight over reaction to something that wasn't a slight. Have a great night, maybe crack a beer.

There's a few pumps in Sask, but nothing like in Ontario. The rest of the west pretty much scorn them.

There are entire camps with nothing but pump guns in the Muskoka's and on Manitoulin... show up with a bolt action there and get set for a week of razzing...

I prefer the 25-06 for deer but only with rump shots. If I’m going to be shooting them in the back straps I’ll take my 416.

I would love to have a pump action rifle, and I leave pretty much as west as you can go!!

9.3x62 is very powerful but has little meat damage cause it’s slow
Most think it’s way overkill but I like it a lot and it’s available more and more
(Not thé caliber you want if you don’t handload due to availability of factory ammo)

Nooooo quite the opposite. Guess people don't see my humor in things. Do have family out in Alberta though and they do seem to think they're superior to the rest of the country in every way, along with their friends. All I see is Alberta is definitely the place Americans got the Canadian accent stereotype from. I do have a strong attachment to pumps, yes. My trapping gun is a bolt action though cause it's cheap and I don't care how much mud it gets covered in. Got some single shot shotguns, semi shotguns, semi rifles, MANY pump rifles, all the fun stuff. Still only use my first pump 30-06 rifle for all big game needs and one shotgun for all bird needs... Not sure why I keep the rest of them aside from the beaver gun.

I believe that. Don't forget, I grew up in the center of the universe and have hunted in Muskoka / Bala area.

I read once that the pump was only more popular in one place, Pennsylvania.

Over 50 years of hunting, i owned couple hundreds of firearms since that time.

The end result always been the same, i am back to my good old 308 caliber.
It seem, nothing else make a better hunter, out of me.

My confidence run high when i hunt WT with my Steyr Scout 308.:)
