My vote goes to my 45-70 Ruger Number 3.
It's also a great little saddle gun but I dont feel like going out and buying another horse.

What rifle does Captononion shoot in these competitions?

My main two rifles I use for the running deer shoots are a Rem 7600 in 25-06, or a Browning BAR in 280. Both are topped with Leupold VXIII 1.75-6 optics with heavy duplex X-hairs.

I tried shooting with a 22Mag, and had mixed results, as I had a very hard time getting the lead right, as the speed of the target varied.

I have been out hunting for 13 days in the last 4 weeks on 2 trips with my 3 1/2 year old...

I once again realized that for pushing the bush type hunting a single shot is all I need because I will only have time for one shot...

I'm heading back this long weekend going to be hunting whitetail bucks in the heavy bush I'm taking my 22" barreled T/C Contender carbine in 45-70 loaded with 325gr Hornady FTX @ 1850fps I'm good for a 200 yard shot.

Other rifle will be taking because I want to break it in on a deer is my non-restricted Robinson Arms XCR-L in 6.8SPC loaded with 95gr TTSX @ 2800fps I'm good for 300 yards.

Talk about 2 different extremes...

My camp gun will be my Marlin 1895GS in 45-70 with a XS Sights low Weaver backup ghost ring sight set up loaded with 350gr Swift A-Frames @ 2050fps...

I just remembered, I have been playing around with all my other guns so much that I forgot that I have been putting together the ultimate bush/semi-open country hunting rifle it is a 20" barreled Rem 700 LSS in 30-06 with a VX3 2.5-8X36mm B&C reticle scope I haven't even finished working up a load for it yet been working with 165gr Accubonds and 180gr Scirroco's leaning towards the heavier 180gr bullets though.

The other rifles I have mentioned earlier will work and are fun to play around with but if I had to limit myself to only one bush gun it would be this one.

At the beginning when I first posted the origional question, my pushing the bush deer rifle was a Marlin 336 in 30/30. I have since then, kind of went on a spending and selling spree.

My new gun is more of a Hybrid, that will be used for the tree stand, and for pushing the bush. Its a Tikka T3 Lite Stainless, in 30/06. I have a Burris Fullfield II 3x9x40 scope on it with flip up lense covers. When the scope is set on 3x Zoom, its very easy to pick up a close target, or a moving target. The gun is super light also, and I can get a 5 round extended magazine, so if I am having problems hitting something on the run, I will get lots of chances at it.

frankly,I don't think it really matters all that much-one shot is often all you get anyway.Maybe a shorter barrel for carrying through thick stuff.What I would be paying MORE attention to is the sighting system-a ghost ring and a fiber optic front sight would seem to be a good way to go,makes for carrying nicely too.

Well, all of my deer hunting is in central Ontario, in the bush. I also spend 99% of my time "pushing", so I think I can participate in this thread. For me, it really depends on the particular run. For our thickest swamps and runs, I carry my 870 w/rifle sighted barrel with slugs. For our mid range runs with some swamps but the potential for longer shots, I carry my Win 94 shooting LeverEvolution in 3030. For our open hardwood runs I carry my Ruger bolt with a 1.5-4.5x scope in .308.

The last two deer ive shot have been with the bolt. I find in the really tight stuff it often doesnt matter what you have as you're likely not going to get a shot.
