Best Detachable mags for SKS?

Tapco if youre insisting on the idea of a detachable mag. But the internal mag is quicker to load with stripper clips than the awkward unintended third party mag changes. After the novelty of bubbaing a gun wears off the majority of people realize the rifle was in fact fine all along lol. But again, its your rifle do what makes you happy, can always change it back.

And there's a tiny mod of filing to do to the Tapco mags to accept strippers. And the 'guide slot' on the SKS may need a touch to help them line up if you're loading them 'in situ'.. If you need a quick load-up after dumping all your mags.

Are you able to post a picture?

Hi - These are pics I did back in'20, and I saved the link to the thread on sksboards .com, too. Link here - http s://www.sksboards.com/smf/index.php?topic=43825.0
I can't find the link describing the 'shoulder mod', maybe it was just in a thread I can't find. I've done it to all my mags and No probs inserting so that may be all it's good for, or there may be a second reason. If I find info I'll Update.
HA ! - UPDATE same time, same station - I found the 'shoulder mod' - it's for Russian stocks (which I had when I found this mod) but works OK in my Tapco with Russian action - no reason why it shouldn't , I guess, and is also OK in the Chinese FT that's in my Tapco Now. - http s://www.sksboards.com/smf/index.php?topic=127837.0
Another site with Tons of Info is Yooperj .com ; and at http s://votefordavid.########.com/search?q=sks

The ak conversion was around before the hi cal conversion was
You might be talking about Spectre ballistics mag block mod. I have one. Block is held by a screw that was not reliable at all, at least not on my SKS. Block just kept falling off, since this particular SKS was a bubba project I decided to implement some drastic measures and had a hole drilled through Tapco plastic and mag block. Installed crossbolt in addition to original screw. It works fine. Mags look like that. I believe they are Tapco.

Yeah my dad has Archangel mags and I like the lever release on them.

I just picked up a pair of the ProMag SKS Magazine w/ Lever Release - 7.62x39, 5-Round [AALVX20] from FOC.

It took about five minutes of minor filing (top of the magazine, back side near the follower—I pressed the follower down and filed the back), and now they go in smoothly. I’m pretty happy with the magazine, though it’s pricey at $59.99. I'm using them with a Chinese Tickler.

Build quality of the magazine seem better than expected, I'm sure they'll be fine for light use. If SHTF, I'll just pop the metal internal magazine back in.

I went the "tepco dremeled for stripper clip" way too. It worked never had a hiccup.

I prefer the handling of the rifle with the factory mag but mag changes were pretty damg fast and the look rustles some jimmies Haha

Tapco is the only after market mag that I would use with an SKS ; unfortunately Tapco is out of business , and their mags are getting as rare as hens teeth .

As I had five factory fixed SKS magazines left over from a few projects, I decided to make some detachable mags for my hunting-rifle SKS. It has the full-length optic rail and can't be reloaded with stripper clips, and I don't like the goofy duckbill magazines, so I figured this would make it more practical while still keeping the classic appearance of the rifle.

Three done so far, another two to go. I set aside the unmodified mag that came with the gun, as I want to be able to return it to factory configuration if I choose to.
