Best distance to zero in a red dot?

So I just put a red dot on one of my sks's, was reading online about zeroing it in. What do you all recommend as a good distance to zero it in at? Lots of opinions online, from 25 to 50 and out to 100 yards.

This will be a general plinking rifle so out to 100yrds is what it sees usually but sometimes further depending on where I'm shooting. It's a bushnell trs-25 by the way, oh and do you all just get it on paper first or laser sight it in and adjust from there? This is my first optic in case you can't tell, lol.
 
Depending on the bullet trajectory, you can do different zeros that will be relatively close over a range of distances. For ar15, a 50 yd/200 yd zero works well by impacting poi/poa at those two distances. In between it will be a bit high. Then from 50 yd down to 0 yd you can hold a bit high to account for the height over bore of the optic and mount. I would find a ballistic curve for the 7.62x39 round out of a similar length barrel and decide from there. Once you decide on the distance to zero, it is up to you if you want to bore sight/laser sight. Will prob save some ammo and would def help if you don't have a spotter with you.
