Best do-it-all hunting caliber

30-06 or .270, even a .308
Would also consider what ammo availability in your area is like.
A fair number of moose have been harvested with a .270. Shot placement is always key!

Yes, and groundhogs to grizzlies up here. There is probably no better way to find a grizzly bear than going sheep hunting. I have a friend who has taken three with his 270, and his wife, IIRC, one.

Practice, practice, practice, no matter what caliber rifle you use, and only using the bench to sight it in. The rest needs to be from field positions; prone, sitting, kneeling (which is the least stable), and offhand using makeshift rests such as tree branches, rock outcrops, etc.

Then practice some more, and do it with the same full-power loads you will be hunting with. ✅

best advices given here and whatever the caliber you re using ...

Great rifles, when you live in a part of the country where you are allowed to use them, but here in Southern Ontario, my all-round go-to remains the 6.5 x 55; legal, more than adequate, soft shooting and inherently accurate. If I lived elsewhere, maybe I would get the 9.3 x 62 out more often. (since size seems to matter to many). Fun to shoot though!!

But in Southern ON, the restriction is only for small game....

No sir, .270 or less. I think you can use bigger in Bruce County and north. I believe Essex county you are limited to 243, and it is the only southern county with a rifle season.
