Best economical air gun for popping rats?

Not sure if you are in town or not but I use cci quiets for rats. About as quiet as a pellet gun and very effective. I zero them at 20 ft.

or a Crossman phantom in .22, bought my last 1 onsale for like $89 at TSC, super easy to take apart and do mods to if you so choose.

and Crossman premier hollow point pellets! rested on something you can hit pocket change at like 25-30 yards easy.

rats are tuff little buggers. what ever you do, dont get a single shot. the rat may need more then one round if you dont hit it in the perfect spot.
i find rat traps are more humane... disclaimer: im not a sniper, nor do i play one on tv.

Not in town but in a subdivision, not sure if the neighbours are anti's but I figure a sub 500 ffs doesn't qualify as a rifle so if the boys in black show up I'm golden:p I might give my local detachment a call and ask about pellet guns and vermin and nosey folk. The issue is a few neighbours have an open compost heaps and we are surrounded by fields. Some of the rats are as big as kittens.
 
Buy these and use in any 22. Dropping a looney on a kitchen floor make's more noise then these, even out of a 16 inch barrel.

+1 on the CCI CB rounds. I have an old Ithaca .22 that I use the winchester ratshot rounds. Good for garage range, little else, but may attract attn if you live in the city
 
Slavia 630 works for me. Add some paint or fn polish to the front sight + a beefer spring from a cgner.
As long as I hit em, they might die down their hole, idgaf as long as they die
The slavia is my brother's old pellet gun he got when he was 16, he's now 40.

If you want rat poison, the home depot and consumer stuff never worked for us. We got some First Strike packets from the feed/chicken mill and they've been dying like mad now.
They never touched the pellets or the bait stations, but put a few of these packets out every night and they're go by morning. Couple days and the dead rats started showing up.

Don't do that. Just find out if your municipality has firearms discharge restrictions that include airguns.
 
I have used a pellet rifle that shoots just around 495fps and a crosman 1377 that also shoots around the same both put a hurt on rats just follow the same rules put the round in its chest and call it a day
 
Most major cities banned shooting airsoft/bb guns true... However the law is there to get ppl who need to be "got".

Now to answer your question any pellet gun in 22 in the 450 fps range.
