So, spent all day Saturday driving back to cowtown from the Island. Slept in a bit this morning, then made it out to the Aunt and Uncle's place this afternoon.
Spent a lot of time drinking coffee and swapping the same old lies, and a couple of new ones. It was a bit cold and windy, so they weren't really active, but still tagged 14 of them in a little over an hour of just walking around.
Only 986 more to go.
The 795 worked great - much happier with it than I ever was with the Ruger. Can't quite reach out like I can with my CZ 452 and CCI Quick Shots (1640fps SHP), but was able to make some 50 yard shots, even in the wind, without to much challenge with Remington Golden Bullets. The rifle has been jam-free, even with cheap bulk ammo and the ProMag 25 rounders. I think I'll invest in a nice wood stock for it to dress it up a bit - and all told it'll still be cheaper than a stock Ruger.
On warm, calm days, I can easily see getting a few 150-200 gopher days in later this spring and in the summer. Lots of fresh holes and mounds out there, looks like they didn't suffer any winter die off - not surprising, given how mild the winter was around here.
