Best equipment for beginner reloader?

You should be able to mount any powder measure with standard 7/8"-14 threads on a turret press. Hornady and RCBS both make a case-activated powder drop for rotating type measures.

I'm not sure if you would have clearance issues with the primer feed on a Lee turret press, but Lee also make a riser that might help if you choose to simply go with manual operation of the measure.

There is no single correct answer to your question as RCBS, Redding, Hornady, Lyman, Forster and the Lee Cast all are very good single stage presses.
I ordered the Redding Big Boss Pro Pak as my top choice and am earnestly waiting for the kits arrival.
You may find another of the presses to be your top pick, good luck!

and the DILLON powder measure screws right into the lee turrt head- that's what i've got on my lee 1000 for 223-and the 338 for that matter- the auto disc simply hasn't the capacity

I was in your shoes just about a month ago. I was going to pick up the rock chucker kit just for the resale value.(in case I decided that buying shells was more in my future)

In the end I bought the Lee 50th anniversary kit. It was a fraction of the price and had all the stuff that the RCBS kit has. All I needed was the dies, shell holder and a case trimmer.

I like the quick change die holder also. Its probably not that big of a thing, but it is handy. You can change between dies in seconds. Like I said, its probably not the biggest selling feature of reloading presses.

I have heard a lot of bad stuff about the lee scale. Thus far I haven't had any problems. It is touchy, but then it is a balance beam. It doesn't bounce that bad and settles down quickly.(contrary to what I have heard. Maybe others scales are better but I wouldn't know)Works just fine.

I also should say I haven't ever tried any of the other presses. Could one single stage press be that much better than another? They all perform the same operation. Pull the handle, ram goes up. Pull the handle, ram goes down.

Good luck.

huh?- my charge bar uses 7/16ths socket- all 3 of them

My mistake; I meant to say that adjusting the 7/16" hex bolt with a box end or socket wrench is painful. Even the MRDial allows much more precise adjustments.

Bet you're gonna be happy Brocky. Redding has fewer brand cheerleaders than the Republic of China Built Stuff whose excellent warranty is often the first thing put to use by new owners lately. The Redding kit also has no "throw away" items added simply to imply added value. Everything you get from Redding you'll keep and use,, except for the warranty;).

Rock Chucker Supreme Master Reloading kit. Everything except dies, powder, bullets and caps. Later on you will add a trimmer, powder tickler, case master gauge, tumbler, primer hole cleaner, primer hole trimmer,

HKMark23 thanks for the vote of confidence!
I talked to some serious benchrest shooters who started me in the Redding direction and checked further on this site and others, the Redding won out by a long shot and exactly as you stated all the kit equipment is top notch.
I can't wait to take delivery and get started reloading with my new Redding equipment.
Cheers,
Brocky
