Looking for opinions on the best factory .243 ammo for ontario white tail deer.
I told my son I'd buy him a box of premium ammo for his first rifle hunt.

Thank you

I have used Winchester supreme balistic silvertip 95 gn. for years. I am sure any 95-100 will work fine but my Remington gun didn't like the Remington ammo, it grouped horribly compared to Win.
Hope he bags a big one :D

You need to make sure the twist rate of his rifle's barrel will stabilize the ammo you will buy.

It's a nice thing to buy your son the best ammo you can afford. As mentioned previously, accuracy is far more important than any other issue.

Other than that, any of the Premium ammo I've used is fine. It isn't always as accurate as plain old Hornady Red Box, with interlocks loaded but it will shoot well enough for your purposes.

I have purchased premium ammo and hand loaded ammo and my Remington 700 likes Winchester Factory 100 grain Power Point the best. 9 deer with this load so far and all were bang flops.

personnaly in my 243 i tried some factory ammo , the worst one was the Fusion 95gr around 3inch at 100yards , after only 4 boxe i bought the reloading tool and do my ammo , i saved a lot and my best load do .500 at 100yards 5 shot

like someone already says check the twist , 1-9 will can stabilise some 105 but not the berger vld (key hole ^^)

Blah, blah, blah … Any 95-100 grainer works great on the biggest of deer. If you want to get fancy, find a load with a Nosler Partition or a bonded bullet of some kind. Best of luck! Hope your son shoots a whopper!

my wife dropped a whitetail buck at 150 yards with 87gr this year. just get it sighted in, .243's will always do the job.

Thanks for all the advice, we sighted in with Winchester Super X in 100 grain, so we decided that we should just stick with that and I bought him a nice sling instead.

He got the rifle for his birthday, he picked a Remington model 7 in stainless and synthetic and we put Leuplod base, rings and a Bushnell 4200 3-9 x 40 on it

Should last him a long time and it meets the caliber restrictions for small game and deer in our area

We have shot scads of game with the 100 grain power point. They are good, and under-rated bullets.

"...make sure the twist rate..." Commercial .243's are rifled for deer sized game bullets.
"...sighted in with Winchester Super X in 100 grain..." Those will do. He'll have to try a box of as many brands as he can to find the ammo his rifle shoots best. Or get into reloading. Operative word is 'he'.
