An acquaintance of mine came to me several years ago complaining that a recently acquired 303 Lee Enfield would not shoot. I took it and cleaned it up and the bore looked very good. The action was in good shape, and a .006" shim between the bolt and a chambered case made it tough to close. I shot it with about 4 types of ammo and it was about a 6" rifle. I couldn't figure it out until someone suggested I slug the bore and take a measurement. Imagine my surprise to find that groove diameter as .317"!!! If I could have found some 8x57J bullets[.318"] I would have loaded them up to see how it shot   Just shows that there are a few grossly oversized, good-looking bores on those old rifles. On the other hand I have seen some that were very, very accurate. I presently own a P14 that slugs .313, and it does quite well with most .311/.312 bulllets. I do have some of Steve Redgwell's bullets [200 grain .313 dia] to try, and I'll bet they shoot well. Regards, Eagleye.

I use remington 180 gr, I have never had a misfire with a military gun, my enfield my brothers enfield and my swedish mauser, all using remington. I have had misfires with winchester in 30-30 and 222, I don't use winchester for big game because of that but to each his own. I got into reloading and get 2" groups with military iron sights at 100 yards loading 150gr Hornady, the only problem is I don't have the time and live too far from my reloading stuff to make use of them this year.
