Sako A7 magazine is similar to the Tikka T3 magazine. Both are polymer and inline, but the A7 has metal feed lips. The 75/85 mags are completely different.
Nice think about the Sako 85 mag, is that it can be loaded while it is installed, just like a hinged floorplate mag. You would need to remove the magazine to load other designs, and that's when they get lost. The Sako design can be used as a fixed or removable magazine and is the best of both worlds IMHO.
definitely not Savage.
their new model detachable mag has these little bent metal tabs on it that can break off if you dont load the mags gingerly. Savage is well aware of the problem, and will mail you a new mag box (not the whole mag just the stamped metal box) if you break yours -- yet this is small consolation if you are outside the warranty period or your mag just broke on an important hunt. ive read reports of some owners having to duct-tape the mag in the gun as an expedient fix.
My rifles made by Steyr a Prohunter and a Mannlicher Classic both have the same style of mag, plastic but it seems to feed very well and loads easily. fS
The smoothest feeding magazine fed rifles have been in my opinion the Steyr Mannlichers with the rotary mags and the Sauer 90, generally the inline mags like the Sauer's all feed more reliably and smoother than staggered mags. I have also been impressed with the fit of the new Browning X bolt but haven't tried them for function. In general any magazine that can be loaded from the top will generally not feed as smoothly or reliably as an inline feed mag.
bigbull
I FORGOT ABOUT MY MAN-SCHOENAUER IT IS THE BEST OF THE BEST, BUT YOU CAN'T REALLY CALL IT A TRUE DETACHABLE MAG EVEN THOUGH YOU MAY TAKE IT OUT FOR CLEANING OR INSPECTION, THE NEW MANNLICHERS ARE SIMILIAR BUT ARE A TRUE DETACHABLE ROTARY MAG AND PROBABLY ARE THE BEST OUT THERE TODAY DALE IN T-BAY
