best/favorite .22

Probably my best / favourite .22 plinkers would be my Marlin 39 Original Golden, then my Browning 52, then my Anschutz 1415-1416, then my Mossberg 340BA, then the remainder which are just filler. ;)

Shown in pic is (Anschutz, Browning, Mossberg, and Marlin):

Have to tell you that I just started back playing with my 22's and I am really having more fun than I thought possible. I have a steel plate target that resests and it gives me hours of pleasure that I never though possible.

And it is cheap.

Has anyone ever thought of a tactical run and gun for 22's. It could be a way to get a lot of shooting for very little expense.

If I counted, which I won't,, I might have close to 30,, 22's,,,,but,, at the age of 12, I was given a Model 63 Winchester ,,, all the others could disappear, but you will have to pry that beauty out of my cold dead hands.

Nice Winnie.... I've got a 1906 that's almost mint, but also sports a Weaver G4 scope.

I have two bolt action tack drivers: a CZ452 American and a Savage MK2 BV. The CZ is a lefty and the savage is a righty for my son.

I love all three and I've never felt the need for a lever action or semi.

On the other hand, I like the idea of diversification.

there are so many good ones out there. As far as levers, it's hard to beat a 39 or a BL-22.

Semi's are by far and away the pickiest, finickiest guns out there; if they feed something well, they probably don't group with it well. If they're accurate, then they tend to be princesses to clean and keep clean. The best I've ever used is a browning buckmark. I've used all sorts of 10/22's in dozens of different configurations and they're pretty hit and miss.

Bolt guns - there are tons of good ones. Lakefield/Savage/Mossberg mk2 are cheap and ugly but functional and accurate. Most remington bolt guns are fantastic, from the 504's to the newer Model 5's. Vintage winchesters can be pretty good - 69's and 52's, but there are also a lot of garbage models too. The browning t-bolt is another favourite, as are the older BRNO's. I don't care much for the newer CZ's. Also most vintage Mossbergs are excellent performers, especially the 144's.

Cooeys are garbage :0

Forgive the hijack, but my Stevens 87c seems to come loose on the king screw when shooting. After maybe 2 tubes of ammo accuracy goes out the window, I check and sure enough the screw is loose. Have you encountered this and what is the fix? Aside from loctite....Plinker777

I just put this together a Savage 93FV 22WMR , Boyds Tacticool stock and Bushnell elite 3200 3 x 9 ... for me its perfect for some plinking and maybe some groundhogs. The stock is a big improvement over the original synthetic one.

Yup..been there
I put a thick rubber washer on the king screw.
It's been used there for years . Worked out good for me.

Thanks Timberlord; Great fix...I'm off to fix it right now:D....And in reference to your signature.......Sometimes it is the pipes, or the humidity, or the reed seating, or the damned "f " on the chanter, or the base reed tongue needs a hair under the bridle, or .....well you know what I mean;)

My favorite 22 is an inherited Winchester Model 75 (1952) but my CZ 455 varmint TH comes in as a close second and for sheer fun, I would have to say my SR22 can't be beat.

so tell me what your favorite brand/model is. I have heard that marlin 39a's are very nice but picky when it comes to ammo...

This question is like asking which is my favorite child....my answer is they are all my favorites....I love all my remaining .22s or I would not own them.
BTW, the 39 I had shot the cheapest ammo I could find very well.

Pic to follow later.

agreed, the winchester 62 is amazing ( i have one) its fast, acurate and you can shoot HV ammo in it unlike some of the other older 22's. I also loooove my savage 30g single shot ( aka favorite model ) its the newer vintage 1990+ . and it looks like a mini sharps !

ps tjhaile did yours come with that rear sight, mine came with a rear lyman tang as well is that original out of curiosity ( sorry to change subject )

I got the Marbles tang sight from Doc Rowland and the front sight is a Skinner post sight. Fortunately, the rifle was factory drilled and tapped.
