If you were putting a fibre-optic (light gathering) front sight on your Marlin 1894C, which would you choose? I am looking for something that is a little more visible in low-light conditions or to offer more contrast against paper targets.

Yes, Williams firesight is looking good. I don't know about skeletonizing my hood though.

I'm thinking maybe a combination of XS rear wide-peep (ghost ring) sight and front Williams firesight might do. I hear I might need a tall front sight if I go with XS. How does this option sound?

I could alternately use the Williams FP-336 rear sight to go with the front firesight.

There's also the Lyman peep that rests on the tang or the receiver. But that might slow acquisition. I'm looking for something unobtrusive, sturdy, and quick.

I've got a red Williams firesight on the front, with a williams peep on the back.

Nothing special, but works well...

I use the williams FP on the back as well. simple, inexpensive, effective. if I want accuracy I leave the apature in. if I want ghostring like speed, I unscrew it. made it the best choice for my rifle that sees it's time split between summer backpacking (bear stick) and some spring/fall hunting.

skeletonizing the hood is done by cutting slits in the top/side or cutting out a chunk to let light in. be careful as to how much you remove as it can make the hood fit loose.
