Now that I have nearly a season of shooting behind me... and have even more questions it seems..time to invest in a good reloading guide.

I don't expect to start rolling my own until next year some time, but what is considered one of the better general books that can get me thinking, but could also serve some purpose when I do get started.

Ten people will give you 10 different answers as for one single reloading manual as a must have.

The ones I go to for info and load data are: Lee, Lyman's, Hornady and Sierra.

You can never have too much info when reloading.

(E)

I started with the Lymans reloading manauls; it is full of usefull information. I have also tried to buy a manual for every brand of bullet that I use (Sierra, Nosler, Speer).

I also find that the Lyman manual has a lot of good information. If you have some idea of what bullets you plan on using i.e. Nosler or Speer, pick up their manual. They are all fairly good and have a lot of information in them.

I got the Lyman 48th edision and before it even started talking about loads, it explained all about the process that leads up to making a load. Very good book and only about $20 with tax. I would also suggest going with the manufactures books of the bullets you mostly use.

Another good idea is see if an experianced reloader can show you the ropes the first time. 2ktaz was nice enough to show me the process step by step and I learned so much and accually know if a load is too hot and I should back off and before I met him, I had no clue.

Goodluck

I would suggest Lyman as well. They don't sell components so their manual has a good cross section of data using various brands of bullets, primers, powder, brass, etc.

Lots of good "how to" explanation in the Sierra Manual, and in it's loose leaf format, it lays flat on the bench. I also have Manuals from Hodgdon, Hornady, Barnes, Speer and Nosler, and reloading guides from Winchester, IMR, Hodgdon, and Alliant. Of all of them, I likely use the Nosler Manual most frequently.

also new to reloading...

I just mail ordered the lyman 48th.
It does not cover the 204 ruger that I hope to do one day soon.

Any suggestions on where to start for good info on this new caliber?

Marlin,

In addition to buying a good reloading manual (my favorites are the Lyman 48th ed. Speer #13 & Hodgdon #27) you might want to check out a book called "The ABCs of Reloading" which is edited by Dean Grennell. You can order it online from Amazon.ca or Chapters.ca or if you're in St. John's, simply drop by the store and they'll bring it in for you (just be aware that since Chapters was bought out by Indigo Books, they've pulled all hunting/shooting related magazines off their shelves because the new owners are anti-gun) The ABC's of reloading will give you a great overview of just about all aspects of reloading, bullet casting and tool usage. Its definitely worth a read, especially if you're a first time reloader. If you belong to the St. John's Rod & Gun Club, contact the exec. Several times a year there are "reloading" workshops held to introduce newbies to the hobby.

Look around on E-bay for a copy of John Wooters' Practical Handloading. I got a copy from Lefty-338-06 here on the forum, and it has been incredibly usefull in my reloading education. Some of it's out of date, but most of it still applies.
