I would like to get a frame plug for my G17, as I hate that open gap at the back of the mag. Any of you guys use these things and if so which brand do you prefer? Do they help at all with fast mag changes?

Thanks

I use a Slug Plug on mine. I consider it an essential part that really should come standard on every Glock. It's a simple little piece of plastic that costs like $7, and is easily removable in a couple seconds. And yes, it does make a difference for rapid mag changes. It also helps keep the backstrap channel clean of dirt and debris. Highly recommended.

I second Ardent... Carried a G19 First Gen almost 24/7 from 1992-2004 in IWB. (Africa). Used it for IPSC standard class, camped with it, carried in the bush & desert, on horseback, motorcycle, working - inside & outside. Backstrap dirt never an issue. Round/chamfer/remove sharp edges on the inside of the mag well with sanding paper and you achieve the same thing for reloads.
Keep it simple.
Plug looks nice though. To each his own.:)

I have owned my Glock 17 since 1988 & I have purchased a few aftermarket item to enhance this fine pistol.

Of all the ideas the marketing gurus have come up with, I understand the plug the least.

As the late great Col Jeff Cooper would have described this item, "A solution for a nonexistant problem".:D

you are wrong. the whole in the bottom is where all the "debris" falls out of the gun. go ahead, take you're plug out, and look at all the junk it has collected for you. faster mag changes? that's the most retarded thing i've heard today. grip plugs are a hindrance on a fighting gun, but go ahead and buy them if you think they are cool.:ninja:

And what kind of 'debris' are we talking about? Any time I take mine out, there is no debris at all of any kind in there. The more I leave that plug out, the more dust I get in there, like in those pin hole crevices. So unless I am in a place where I think debris will be an issue, it stays put. Maybe I just don't shoot it enough to see this 'debris'.

It only takes 2 seconds to remove the friggin thing anyway if you are worried about debris.

I shoot my Glocks a lot of haven't noticed the debris either, though there is indeed a hole coming down from the action I doubt much comes down there. One consideration that does matter though; part of the reason for that hollow unsupported backstrap is to allow it to flex. It acts a a shock absorber against the palm of your hand, supporting it with a frame plug removes this benefit. I personally am not big on them...

I have used these plugs for the last 3-4 years in my G20 that I used for remote area carry (ATC) and now I've installed one in my new G23...

I have never noticed the slightest difference in felt recoil with or with out the plug or a buildup of crud inside when I removed the plug.

What I have noticed is I no longer get pine needles and such inside the hole when I check it out after a day in the bush...

I don't just carry it I also take the gun to the range and shoot more with it in a month than most people do in a year... :)

I look at it this way. Everybody has a hole in their arse, but there are some people out there that just insist on putting a plug in it ! :D

its a personal preference i just find it looks nicer with the plug each is own i guess.it more a cosmetic thing i dont think it serve anny purpose other then that

This is why people want a plug. Just bought this g19 (looks to be an ex duty gun from somewhere) and this is what I had to deal with. Probably mostly doghnut crumbs :D and I also had to clean what looked like chocolate off the light rail:rolleyes:
