Best GOPHER ammo pictures welcome

This past season was one of my best gopher seasons to date, had just over 1000 confirmed hits. Federal pails are the cheap go to at $69/ pail but the aguilla super extra hollow points are super impressive. Far more accurate than the federals and pack a punch. SK high velocity hollow points were great when you could find them. Overall tho, aguilla seems to be my constant go to. Also as for 17hmr being the ultimate gopher round... I'd say 17 fireball has it beat. 20gr pill at over 4k does some spectacular things.

I have found yellow jackets to be really effective up to about 80 to 100 yards. They really pack a wallop and a really satisfying sound when they impact especially in the mid drift.

Agreed. They worked super nice on the wee varmints from " between the feet" out to past 150 yds or so from me old 10/22. A daily cleaning of the action kept 'er runnin' smooth. ;)
 
I've used most of the common HP .22 ammo. Lately, I've used one of my CZ 455's, mostly .22, some 22mag, some 17 hnr.

I like Hornady 17gr V-Max for the 17, whatever for the .22 mag, and especially like Winchester-Western HP for .22. The WW's have a bit flatter nose and do a nice job.

Having said all that, I'll use 555's, Federal 525, or anything that goes bang in .22 HP. The 455's aren't too persnickety on type. I do fire warning shots, just to give fair notice to the gophers. :d

When I was a kid, to get a box of CIL "mushroom" shorts was a big deal.

** I also use a shotgun on occasion. Takes care of that under-gunned feeling in a field overrun with gophers! :p

Yep, I've shot em all and 40g Power Point is the sh!t if you have to use 22LR.
But really the greatest rimfire gopher round is the 17 Mach 2

My 10/22 really liked Remington Game Load. Gophers didn't care for them. I have not seen any for sale in many years. Probably discontinued. I'm down to about 1600 rounds, but haven't been out in years. Lost access to my usual place.

Good old Win bulk hp has worked well. Doing some mods with the Waltz die adds to the expansion and in due course, splat effect. I have some video of popping the critters from when I had a Sony handy-cam mounted on top of the scope. No way to post, might offend some anyway.
 
I have 2&1/2 cases of mini mags left and just over a case of yellowjackets. My buddy uses bulk hp. There is no question that the high speed hits harder. He has no problem knocking down the field of pickets. In my VQ 10/22 I use SK+ as it has a match chamber. With it I often double tap when I don’t need to. Sure fun. Looking forward to spring! Thousands more rounds to shoot. PS a 22 hornet is great fun in the field and coulees.
 
No love for the 17 WSM? The 17 HMR and 17 WSM together cover all of the ranges needed in the gopher patch and that's what I mainly use now.

I have issues with how far the bullet will travel with 223. The hmr bullet literally explodes on impact and you don't need to worry as much about that. And the other issue with 223 is the noise. But obviously those are bigger issues when you are close to houses and don't want to bother the neighborhood as much. It tears up the Gophers real good too!!

Yes, that thwack with a direct hit is an amazing sound.
Almost as impressive as the pink mist ;)
Head shots they make a rather loud "THWOP" ! if thats such a word.
Get your trigger finger ready guys, gopher season isnt that far away.
