I don't factor in time for $ with my reloading. I could either be watching TV or doing something productive and reload some .270. You don't really save money reloading because you end up spending the money you saved on more shooting but who doesn't like to shoot more? I got all my reloading stuff in December and its a seriously addicting hobby. Its only been 5 months since I started and the equipment has paid for its self already.
 
Posting the best and the worst group of the day should be easy enough and let's see what the bulk or surplus can do in non semi's as well!
 
Great combo for very cheap ( almost like shooting 22 LR ), reliable and fun... I win nothing with that target but it is a very consistent combo, the awfull trigger have you force to concentate more than usual to get results.... JP.

For sure today, i will order a couple more K's of that ammo, this batch is good, so far over 500 rounds and not a malfunction... JP.

I think the best way to quiet the masses with their talk of cherry picking one group out of 50 or that it being total fluke is to do similar to what the precision challenges were doing.

Let's modify your challenge to this,
1. Must use semi auto black rifle of any brand. In the case of an AR use any barrel you want as long as you state what you are using.
2. Must use bulk surplus ammo. American Eagle, Winchester white box, Norinco, S&B, PMC etc. You choose whatever your rifle likes best but no premium ammo and no handloads.
3. Must make 5 shot groups.
4. Must make 5 groups on one page.
5. All groups must be done at 100yds or Meters (specify which in your post). Does not count if you shoot at 50 yards then double your measurements. 100yds/meters or nothing.
6. Must provide a picture of the target with your rifle and the ammo used.

For number 4 I mean that you buy the targets that have more than one target per sheet so you can make multiple separated groups on the same sheet. All rounds count. All flyers or pulled shots are included. Make all the excuses you want but all 25 shots count. Any taping over of shots or any holes on the page that aren't included in your groups void that target and you must try again.

If you want to cheat and go ahead you'll know you're a loser and it nobody really cares anyway. We go on the honor system, if you have none that's your problem.
Since we are using cheap bulk no one should have a problem dropping a couple hundred rounds attempting to make 5 clean groups on a single page.

If people want we can put a limit on optics magnification but as long as it's open for anyone to use anything they want I don't know if we really need to put a limit on it.

Feel free to add to the criteria but I like the idea of this and will give it a try next time I'm at the range.

You know sir, i only shoot for fun, it might be an expensive rig or a low cost rig, the main thing is the pleasure of shooting... Just saying... JP.
 
I am fi e with that. It's basically what I posted but just more elaborate but that's what I ad in mine and the 5 group is a good idea to shut down the haters.

Just saying, almost everything you have is dressed up pretty darn nicely. Keep enjoying them all.

When can we expect some more 100 shot groups? I liked that :)

This. I looked into reloading myself, I shoot enough that I could pay for the equipment in a few months. The added bonus would be that I could make custom high performance loads now.

Time is the key thing here. I do night shift work and crazy amounts of hours/overtime. My days off are scares, I'd much rather be out drinking beer then sitting in my basement making ammo. I'd probably never get out. Shooting military calibers that have surplus available the savings are negligible and not worth the time IMO. If you were talking odd ball calibers or .50 BMG that might be a different story.

I think five 5-shot groups is perfect, but it will require large-format target paper for most people, I'm guessing.

I say no limit on optics: Too messy to administer. If someone wants to start a separate thread on irons / 1X optics, that's fine. What we're really interested in is the mechanical accuracy of the rifle and ammunition combination, and there's no better way to see that than with magnified optics.

This can be the dedicated thread, all we need is someone to start us off with some pictures of their targets and rifle. Maybe a mod can clean it up a little once it gets going. If it takes off maybe even a sticky.
I'll give it a try with my NR ACR, my 12 inch PWS AR and my 6.5 inch AR. If I had any factory 300BLK ammo left I'd run my ACR conversion and my 9.75 inch PWS AR, that little bugger shoots really well. If you don't mind me cheating with the 300BLK rifles I'll use handloads.
I'll post some pics after the next range trip which will be next week when I get some days off work.

I agree, no limit on optics, use whatever you want. I would hope people would be kinda practical though, throwing my 5.5-22x56 Nightforce on my 6.5 inch AR would be a little silly just to try to make a better group. There is nothing on the line here so don't get too competitive, just shoot it the way you normally run it.

I didn't want to spring for the gold elite match ammo, so I am stuck with this stuff. Only really expecting 0.5MOA out of it, maybe 0.3MOA if its new CJ95....


All kidding aside, I am super interested to see how this stuff shoots. First time having a magnified optic on my AR, and seeing that I am no Norinco, PMC, Federal fanboy, I could care less what happens in the results. I am paid as a scientist to be objective and unbiased, a lot of that I carry over into my hobbies! Will report back.
