I have a blued bolt action rifle here that has some missing bluing inside the action where it began to get surface rust and I cleaned it out and am wondering what finish would be ideal for it. Any ideas? It’s not stainless steel just cromoly steel. Would nitriding be ideal? It’s a nice rifle I don’t want a cheesy job on it. Where is the best place to send the rifle to in Canada to have it refinished? I’d like the barrel and action inside and out of the action to be refinished for good protection against rust and still look good. Let me know, I have never done this before on a rifle so I need some tips. Thanks!

I’m kinda leaning toward nitriding the barreled action. Is it ok to nitride it while the barreled is still attached to the receiver? Not sure I wanna try and remove the barrel and mess around with it like that. I guess the threading on the barrel inside the receiver wouldn’t get any of the nitride treatment tho which kind of sucks..

From what I hear, most places won't nitride a barrel.
