best gun for polar bear protec/hunting

This is going back some years, but I do recall a helicoptor pilot who flew us around, he had a grey beard and carried a 44 magnum revolver (chrome)? Do you remember Mitch (red headed guy with beard) and his white Sheppard (Kida?) that worked at the NSC? I also remember a mechanic that worked there, he had a Springer Spaniel named Molly. There were many faces I recall, but I'm bad with names, perhaps better with dog names :) I took many photos of my time there. Perhaps I'll post a few of the interesting ones.

One day I'll share a horror story related to a few local shotgun toting a$$holes who decided to destroy hundreds of roosting black Ravens while they slept in an abandoned hanger. If I had caught them, I'd still be in jail today.

I ended up with that .44, it was a nickel plated S&W and if I was to pick a favorite, it was my favorite of all my handguns. I carried it for years in a Bianchi Cyclone which I thought was perhaps the best thought out holster design I had come across and had all the features I wanted, so of course they dropped it. Mitch moved to Arviet and I believe he's still there. Last time I saw him most of the hair was gone. I remember his dog, but not it's name, but I think you're close. He kept a piece of flagging tape around his neck so no one would mistake him for a wolf and shoot him. Molly belonged to Clifford. Can't help you out with the ravens, but like anywhere there are a few guys around here who don't have much respect for anything.

Thanks for the update. I'm beginning to recall more and more. That .44 was sweet. I handled it a few times and began dreaming about becoming a helicopter pilot in the wilds of the Canadian north. Clifford seemed like a good guy. Most of the names I remember were the academics I worked with. You probably met Tim Ball from U of W! :)
