Best gunsmith to build P14 375 H&H

I would say Bevan King in Ponce Coupe BC. He is very familiar with the Pattern 14 Action. However perhaps there is someone closer to you.
 
My advice is just get someone to re-barrel a Pattern of 1917 to .375 Scovill. It's based on the .30-06 case and apparently is powerful enough for large critters that bite (and African game.) A lot of guys in Alaska rebarrel Winchester 1895 lever guns for it.

You would save a lot of money on brass and powder that way.

RCBS sells dies and forming & trim dies also.

you would have to change the bolt and ejector and follower and magazine and...as he has a pattern 14 not a model 17

I know he has a P14 action.:)

I just think it would be cheaper to just find a P17 action and go from there.

Bell & Carlson sells nice fiberglass stocks for the P14 & 17.

Timney makes a Sportman's trigger that is exceptional.

Plus with a magazine capacity of 6 rounds of .375 Scovill he would be well prepared for any large game in North America. If you don't believe me look it up in the latest Barnes reloading manual. They have data going up to 300 gr. X-bullets in .375 Scovill, with ratings for water buffalo and elephant.

Also, if he can dig up some Pattern 17 stripper clips and he keeps the rifle with open sights, reloads would be quick and easy with a couple of 5 round stripper clips tucked in the pocket.

I hope I'm not being meddlesome, but that is just my two cents worth.

For the cost of a M17 action, he could modify the P 14 action. I don't see any benefit and he has to deal with a wildcat without the possibilty of over the shelf purchase of ammo if necessary.
 
Well the point is moot, I just purchased a BRNO 602 in 416 Rigby, soon to be a .366 DGW. Will have to shoot the Rigby part before the conversion. Now that I have a big hammer I will have to find something to hit with it. Now I will flog the P14, should have done more research first. Oh well so many guns so little time.

Direct Neck Down of the 416 Rigby to .366(9.3MM), shows impressive ballistics. 3100 fps with a 250 BT BT, and 3000 fps with a 286 Partition.
