best hand gun for a newbie?

I'd recommend getting a .22. They are cheap and fun to shoot. If you're set on 9 then CZ Shadow or 1911 in 9mm are probably the easiest to shoot for a new shooter. But it really comes down to what you like and what you're into. If you like the glock get a glock. There's a bit of a learning curve with polymer striker fire guns compared to steel frame hammer fire guns. You'll probably shoot low and left for a bit if you're right handed.

You’re going to suck at pistol shooting anyway at first so just buy something that fits well in your hand, honestly any of the offerings from the majority of modern manufacturers out there will shoot more accurately than you can initially. Glock, CZ, S&W, Sig etc etc all make nice pistols, some will have ergonomics that fit you and others won’t. Try and handle a few and see what jumps out at you.
I’m not trying to be a buzzkill, I’m just remembering how bad and inconsistent I shot when I bought my first pistol. After a year I took a handgun fundamentals class and things started to click, looking back I should’ve taken the class sooner lol. I learned a lot and had a great time taking the class. if you've got $$$ to burn, 9mm is okay...but .22LR is much better and affordable way to learn and train on. so grab a Glock 44! 
I have a lot of semi HGs and have a good collection of 9mm. I am most impressed with CZ 75 Shadow SP01. And this one of the least expensive of the lot of them.
I will also say I hated the Glock I owned. Tupperware.

I went with a Sig P226 22LR because you can buy a 9mm upper for it and have 1 gun and 2 calibers for cheaper then having 2 guns. Shoot 22 for learning and practice till you learn some things the just take off the 22 slide and put on the 9mm slide or 40sw slide and shoot that its the best way to go I think. And its a Sig P226 they are one of the most trusted sidearms for police and military going back decades and holding them for me anyways the grip is just perfect.
I also bought a FX-9 its a 9mm PCC that uses glock magazines so of course that meant I was obligated to buy a glock 17 to share magazines with. I like the glock its another very well respected sidearm but the grip is like holding a 2x2 not very comfortable and can't even compare to the comfort of my P226.

My first pistol was a 1911 in 9mm. I still love that gun. I have a few polymer pistols that I try to love but I don't find them as exciting as my 1911s (up to 4 now) or Shadow. And, as far as who wouldn't want a Glock? I'm afraid you would have to put me on that list. They work well and people love them but I don't find the esthetics appealing... Personal taste yada, yada

This is sound advice and I wish more new shooters would follow it.
