Best handgun for IDPA?

pontcanna

Good Morning

Up here we are a club wthin a club. We started Terrace Defensive Pistol Club two years ago and base our club off of IDPA. since we are rather remote we have not joined IDPA formally due to cost of membership vs benefits. Shooting is done using IDPA targets made by ourselves (Shipping is a killer), and our scenarios are all IDPA.

There are about 15 of us made up of civies (4), Sheriff Dept., RCMP, Fire Dept., and Fed Fishery types make up the balance. We have a blast and shoot every two weeks weather permitting.

We have an annual shoot each year for an annual trophy. Because are numbers are small we don't segregate our shooters yet by pistol/caliber yet. In time we may join IDPA especially if a few more clubs start up here in B.C.

Terrace has a great outdoor shootin range left over from the war. Interest in shooting as declined somewhat over the past few years but there is a growing interest in shooting sports along with the hunters recently and we hope this trend continues.

Wow, you cant bring those in even temporarily?

On the bright side though... Since the AWB sunsetted you can once again take your previously banned AR type stuff....

Thats cool, since I think I'm pretty much done with norinco anyway. Next year I'm going on a federal vacation to sunny Kandahar, and I'll have the money to upgrade from Norinco Peon, to HK snob. AND do some travelling stateside.

Is IDPA like IPSC where your gun calibre affects your score? I'm PPC qualified, does that allow me shoot IDPA? Does anyone offer IDPA courses?

I shot a semi serious IPDA match at BRRC, it was awesome, but not a regular event there. I used my Browning HP 9mm, but its kinda small in my hand so I've been looking at Sigs and HK usps.

Hey Flanker, don't pass off your Norinco just cuzz the Yanks can't get new ones and they won't let them in because Clinton got his $hit in a twist. Great guns, dependable and accurate. Use yours in CDP in IDPA and you won't be undergunned. IDPA is defensive shooting not bullseye and ranges are relatively short.

Thanks for your service and watch your six.

We shoot IDPA syle up here in Terrace. We are rather remote and have not affiliated yet with IDPA. Been at it now for two years. Club has now 20 members and slowly growing. RCMP, Sherriffs and Federal Fishery types along with a handfull of civies. Lots of fun, shoot outdoors year round weather permitting.
Our shooting is tactical and follows IDPA scenarios. Our members find it more fun than shooting IPSC.

Other than Ontario, are there any other "IDPA" sanctioned clubs in Canada?

There will be one starting up in Alberta in the new year. Watch these pages for the inaugural announcement for the Alberta Tactical Handgun League
