When I was shooting much more rimfire cartridges than now, I would always bring, at least one centrefire revolver to the outdoor range down east.
SIG P226 or P229
I have seen them get used and abused. Seen then rusted, muddy, dry and full of sand. They still ran well and they very accurate too! I would never of thought the SIG would have been that tough, but they are!

You're in good company.The guys who sleep with loaded guns, round chambered and the safety off kind of creep me out. Seriously.
I love guns, always have, but I can never see myself being that paranoid. Shotgun in the closet. Cool.
Pistol in the drawer, fine.
On the night stand, Cocked, loaded and safety off... I dunno seems a bit much.
If you need that to feel safe, I think you need to move or check your meds.
