Looking for opinions on a good hard case.....to hold ar with optic one or two pistols and mags for each

Would like to cut my own foam instead of compression style

Some of the cabelas ones don't come with enough foam and have an air space. Want it full to the brim with foam and guns sit in the cut outs. Trying to not spend 4-500 bucks lol.... I see some nice ones out there but for the price I could buy another gun haha

Just looking for options

Thanks in advance

It's tough to beat Pelican.

They last forever, the locks work 15 years later, and they come in a rainbow of colours. They have loads of foam options, straps, and come in a size geared to whatever guns you want to carry.

I like my 'briefcase' style rather than the short squat types.

I picked up a Plano AW 42.. for 109$ at Walmart.

Ive had my Pelican 1750 for years now, But I rarely use it. I much prefer a good soft cases, takes up less room and they are much lighter. :)

I really like my IWI case for my X95, I got a bunch of cheap Condors as well that I picked up on sale on Amazon. Thats one thing I dont really spend tons of cash on, and the way I treat my guns makes you wonder why I actually have cases.......lol

The Seahorse cases are excellent. I got a Pelican Storm IM3200 off Amazon for $115, got really lucky with that.

Found practically new Pelican 1700 on Kijiji for $130. Fits everything and still NOT an oversize luggage for air travel.

At around 20lbs empty, my pelican has been in the garage for a few years. If not doing air travel Cabelas own tactical soft case is about 80 bucks. Nice case, decent value.

I have Pelican , Storm ( now part of Pelican ) , Starlight, Plano, Nanuk , HPRC and Seahorse

Can't go wrong with Pelican / Storm / Nanuk . I wouldn't buy another Starlight.

HPRC is a good choice but hard to find in Canada

BTW, the common 44 inch ( Nanuk 990 Storm 3200 are all about the same weight )

Hard to say which is "best" but I will say Pelican / Storm replaced my case when Air Canada managed to crack it. They even shipped me back my original custom cut foam with the new case

For AR use , the 44 inch case is bit on the big side . I would go with the IM3100 size ( about 36" ) . Only thing annoying with the IM3100 is it won't quite fit my Brownells Soft AR Case

If you are on a budget, you can't go wrong with the Plano / Huntsman . Not as beefy as the others ..hey its 1/3 the cost ! ...but perfectly adequate for trips to the range where I pile other cases, tripods, target stands etc onto

When travelling across the country by Tacoma to and from my clinics, I’ve emptied out the foam from my Pelican cases and used soft cases to squeeze in a few rifles and pistols. You already paid for the soft cases. Why not travel with a few firearms inside that Pelican 1750 and 1720 (for CQB, my AR and a couple of pistols travel this way)

Thanks for all the suggestions out there!!

Cheers, Barney
