If you're going to buy one, bamboo is strong & light. There's also an aluminum walking pole with flashlight and stun capability - I don't recall who sells them.

Personally I would prefer a stout oak walking cane with some kind of metal tip for added 'traction' & a sizeable can of bear spray in a holster instead. (versus a firearm)
