Best hunting bullet for the M305

??

just the above basically means get something around 150 grain and shoot it and see where it lands if its within acceptable MOA then shoot it and you wont have a problem with regular lead tipped bullets either as they tend to fair quite well esp when holding up under velocity.

Same cant be said for Hornady sst's and nostler BT's.

Winchester 168 grain soft point flat base seems to shoot the best in my EBR even better than Burger hunting rounds

I've hunted and killed more than a handful of cariboo/chilcoltin Mule deer, 5 haida gwaii sitka deer and a couple of pemberton blacktails, a couple 500 to 600lbs moose and a couple of 2 to 3 year old black bears, those are just the ones I've taken with a souped up M305.
Hunting rounds successfully used (single shot kills on all of the above animals)
Winchester supreme 160 sumthin grain, nosler ballistic tips
Federal powershok 150 gr SP
Federal vital shok 160 something grain, think it was a nosler partition bullet ?

Zero issues, happy hunter ;)

Like lead in the environment?
Because when you shoot a animal if its a bonded bullet it typically holds together and you have to cut out meat around the hole depending on the amount of hydrostatic shock anyhow.
All my 308 shots on deer have been pass throughs so finding any lead in there is pretty hard to do.

Believe it or not I have found success with a sp flat base winchester 165 in my M305 your mileage may vary. Accuracy much much better than with any boat tail rounds that I have tried. So far Hornady, Burger, and Speer boat tails in 165=168 grain BT.

im planning to try out the Hornady GMX, cuz i'm a ##### about lead contamination
Not to sound like a smart ass but man has been shooting animals with lead for over 600 years and there has never ever been a case of lead poisoning attributed to eating an animals flesh that has been shot with a lead ball, buckshot, birdshot , or lead bullets. I have eaten deer, birds, tree rats, rabbits and picked out lead shot and buckshot out of my mouth before I could swallow with never a problem other than a sore tooth when I bit down on shot, in fact I was raised on game that was lead shot and I am 72 years old still here, still hunting, riding and shooten.

R/C - Just FYI, my M14 shoots 150 grain SST into 5" shotgun patterns, and 165's into nice 1.5" groups, with the same brass/primer/powder types. I'm sure it's the short bearing surface of the 150's. Flat base Winchester 180 PP's shoot even better. I know you've heard about the not shooting 180's thing, but I use the same powder (IMR 4895) for all my M14 loads, just adjusting how much I use, and never had a problem.

I'll be hunting my moose this year with my M14 and the aforementioned Winchester PP's as I have about 40 left loaded and I'm out of 165 grain SST's right now.

Awesome. I can think of few thinks more satisfying than a successful hunt with an M14. Tired arms and back though..........

Candocad.

Well, I shot my moose with a Garand a few years back, so it's time to move on to other similar rifles.

My M305 likes Remington KorLokPSP 168 grain. It is a soft point flat base bullet. It is the most accurate one tried so far and I have used SMK and Bergers.
