I would definitely nix the idea of AO on a hunting rifle. Parallax won't be a factor on a scope designed for hunting at normal hunting ranges.
Lots of good suggestions for you above. Another brand to look into is Sightron. I now have three of their scopes, and wouldn't hesitate to buy another. You will more than likely save 3-400 over a similar Leupold, customer service through either Mystic or Hirsch Precision is top notch and the Sightron warranty rivals the "gold ring". They do stand behind their product.

For an all around big game hunting rig choose something like I mentioned or a 3-9x40mm (or something close to it) and you will be very happy. Big, clunky scopes ruin a nice hunting rifle.
