Best illuminated reticle scope 3-15x or so in the $1000 price range?

I was set on a Zeiss HD5 3-15x with target turrets for my Cooper 280 AI which is on its way soon.

In the meanwhile, I got a cross bow (Excalibur Matrix 380) which comes with a scope with an Illuminated reticle. Boy am I hooked. I was looking through it to sight it in the wee hours of the evening and the illumination makes a heck of a difference.

Now I'm all confused. I've set my scope budget to about $1000. I'd like target turrets and a magnification of 3-15x or 4-16x. I like the higher mag for use at the range.

I have a friend who is really pushing the Vortex Viper PST HS I think.

weaver seems to have a great scope for its price, I like the locking turrets (it was on a 4-20) but the weaver waranty is not transferable so if you go for this one, make sure you like it before you buy

Sightron has good glass.
4scopes.com is the way to go. I saved $200 after shipping /taxes on my sightron.
We Canadians sometime pay huge margins on good sold locally.
Whatever you go with, price check!!!

I had the Vortex PST FFP and the lens is not at the top compared to Weaver and Sightron.

I have the sigtron 8-32x56 and a friend owns Weaver 4-20x50. recently he buy a Vortex PST 6-24x50m and is very disappointed.

according to me you no mistake in buying the Weaver. does not register the product for warranty like that if you sell the buyer may benefit by.

I'm now thinking of screwing the illuminated reticle and just concentrating on quality of glass and target turrets with a custom turret made. Even wondering if I should expand the budget.

Top or the list is the Zeiss Conquest HD 3-15x target. Trying to understand what max range I can get out to and if the zero stop is necessary with a custom turret? I've never seen one of these. Part of me also wonders if I should sprint for an S&B 3-12x at $1500 but then I won't have the target turret.

The Zeiss seems like the best compromise.

I have the 3-15HD5 myself, and find it to be an excellent scope for the money.Kenton makes custom turrets for the Zeiss scopes.

by custom turets, do you mean turets that show distance instead of mill or moa?
if it is the case, dont forget that even if you always shoot the same load, trajectory will change depending on atmospheric conditions
I prefer from far use angle for corections than inch of drop or distance showed on turret

Yes those are the turrets I'm considering. Figured I'd find a load that I was happy with accuracy wise with a premium projectile like a Barnes TTSX and get them to build a turret given average atmospheric conditions I'd probably shoot in; then again you make me wonder if there ever is such a thing and whether I should consider a ballistic reticle like the Z-800 instead.

Realistically if I think about it, if I ever really planned on hunting at longer range than MPBR would suffice, I will know the ballistics of said rifle from very recent practice, well enough to know how many clicks from zero I need for a given yardage.

Make yourself a good drop chart from practical field experience and take that and your laser range finder and save the cash from the turret. Soon you will get so familiar with your drops that you will not use the chart, you will know what to dial based on your range finder.
