Best lee enfield for hunting?

Lee Enfield mags were never to be removed from the gun and if that is adhered to the rate of failure is almost zero. Soldiers were issued one, the one that came with their gun and were told to never remove it, just use stripper clips to load the mag.

bang on my one and only lee enfield is a no 4 mk1 that was drag around Europe by my great grandfather im using the same gun and mag today I've put countless rounds through the gun and others in my family have done the same not a single issue

I dunno if provinces vary... But I've always understood that if I'm in or on a vehicle, the magazine, loaded or not, is not in the rifle and the action is open. I was under the impression that this was the law.... ? I don't mind being educated if I'm wrong

The only requirement to transport a non-restricted weapon in Canada is that it must be unloaded....

Firearms regulations say "unloaded". A rifle with a detachable magazine attached is "unloaded" if there are no rounds in the chamber and no rounds in the magazine. This firearms regulation applies whether you are hunting or not.

Hunting regulations vary somewhat between provinces, but none can supercede the firearms regulation requiring guns be unloaded while in the vehicle. What they might do is specify that a detachable magazine must be detached and then whether the magazine contains ammo or not you must remove it to comply with that hunting regulation. But if they don't say that specifically, an empty magazine on the gun will not make it "loaded."

Ya, I've been reading the BC hunters safety manual and the wording suggests action open and magazine removed or hinge plate open.
It's the way I remember it being written wayyyy back when I took the course so it's just kinda stuck.

Howwever, reading the firearms act on safe transport/storage there doesn't seem to be that same instruction.

It's easy to load the mag while it's in the rifle even with the scope on so I'm gonna try that from now on

waterwheel - If you want to get a sported Lee Enfield for hunting, decide first what sort of sights you want. Open, peep or scope.
Unless a lot of work has been done, SMLEs will have an open sight on the barrel, No. 4s will have a rear aperture sight, and No. 4s are easier to scope.
A sporting style buttstock makes these rifles more comfortable to shoot, particularly if you mount a scope.
Once you have decided what style of rifle you want, look for one in the best condition. These are all older rifles, and condition does vary.
You should be able to get a perfectly good sported .303 for $100 - $150.
