My dad is left handed and we have been looking for a .308 for him for a while. It's pretty hard to find a LH rifle at the first place......

I noticed someone just bought a left handed Remington 700 police .308?

He will use mainly for shooting range only. no hunting yet.

What would you recommend? thanks!!

Limited LH selection

As a lefthanded shooter I find our selection somewhat limited in boltguns. Remington has one of the widest selections of LH rifles. Sako offered a few models as well as Savage. It really boils down to calibre and use (hunting, bench. varmint etc.) For the money there is nothing wrong with the Remington 700 SPS, usually well under a $1000.00 and a decent rifle for bench and varmint. I recently purchased the LH Rem 700 LTR and really like the easy handling 20" barrel.
Good luck

As a right handed F-Class shooter, If I could find a good left hand action, I would buy it in a heart-beat. The non-dominant hand is far better for using the bolt and loading ammo when shooting prone, or off a bench at the range. Keeping the dominant hand in position and maintaining cheek alignment is so much easier with an action designed for a non-dominant user.

IMHO, Lefties have it made.

I'm a lefty as well, and prefer a right handed bolt action. For some reason it seems more ergonomic. As Obtunded has said, I can keep my eye on the scope, shooting off a bench or bipod and work the action with my right hand. Its easy to look into the chamber on a right handed action as well, and even with semi-auto's no brass hits me. On a light field type rifle, I just hold the rifle up in the air with my left hand while I work the bolt with the right. I don't put that much value in fast follow up shots in a hunting scenario in any case. If I didn't hit it on the first shot and its running, my chances of success on a 2nd shot are far worse.

I could be wrong, but I thought WSS has Tikka T3 lites in left handed. I have one in 308, but right handed, and I really like it.

You are aware Savage sells left-handed, right-ejection (and vice-versa) actions, right? :welcome:

I'm an avid collector of leftie guns. I'm happy you didn't ask for a semi, those are practically non-existent (only one is a plain-jane Browning BAR in rifle caliber). Bolts and pumps are a bit more common, but you really need to figure out what your dad is going to use this for - hunting - in which case I recommend something like the Savage 111-FCNS, light and fairly accurate out of the box, with a decent price tag (so you can mount a decent set of optics on it with the change left), or other uses - like bench shooting - where I'd recommend you take a good at the 10-FCP or 10-FLCP.

I have nothing against Remmies or Sako's, I just find their base-models over-priced, and a poor bang-for-your-buck (although I must admit, them Sakos sure are nice to play with. :D)

I like my Savages, thank you. :p:D

And yes, I do plan on picking up a Savage 111-FLNS soon. I think I may need more than my 870 for all my hunting needs. :D

If range use only, and plan much of that from the bench, and just getting into it, I would go 223, . This would make it easy to get good results. And less money spent. ;) Can trade up or keep as a varmint rig later if hunting works.

I'm a lefty I have a Lever action .308 in the M88 accurate as all get out with the federal 150 Grain Game Shok (blue box) out to 200 yards I can clover leaf it out to 150 yards benched. But for left hand shooters Savage, Remington and Ruger are the three most common Manufactures of LH action rifles that I've noticed. Best of luck in finding something for your dad.

A LH M700 SPS Varmint would be under your budget by a fair margin. The LH M700 LTR would be alot (IMO) nicer but is $300-400 over the budget.

Savage is one of the only other makes that offers a HB LH 308.

So ya, not alot of factory options out there. If you could live without a heavy barrel that opens up a few more options.

thanks for all the inputs!!

I think heavy barrel is the way to go. It sounds like a lot of people recommend M700 series, either 700P/LTR or SPS. no more VSF produced right?

Anyone knows who might have LH LTR in stock??

Rem 700

Wolverine did a search for me and thought they might be able to obtain a new in the box Rem 700 VSF LH with 26 inch barrel, sand colour HS stock and the fluted barrel in the $1500.00 area. Ellwood Epps had the LTR at around $1350.00, check this with other Rem dealers to see if they can obtain one from the Rem distributor in Canada who is based in Quebec. Varmint SPS is running $800-900 range and then you have the option of putting a stock from EE or new purchase stock like a Macmillan or HS when your ready. SPS Varmint is decent value, I did see a good selection of LH Rem on Epps website.
Good luck

Savage model 10FCLP 24"heavy fluted barrel with muzzlebrake,4rd clip, accustock, accutrigger, 9lbs. Accurate as all get out, got a chance to try the right hand version last night, if it wasn't for the nut behind the trigger the five shot group would have measured 1/4". 3 shots measured 1/8". Price from Cabelas.ca around $950.

After explaining the pros and cons about these LH rifles that you guys have recommended, it seems like my Dad is more leaning towards the Tikka T3 Varmint model. It's got some pretty good review as well, with the only negative being lots of plastic. He likes the smooth action and the overall look.

I emailed the canadian distributor about the LH T3 Varmint in .308 and they don't have it in stock and they don't know when the next shippment will be either......(i start to not like the business nature in firearms.....ahahha)

It sounds like not many Tikka T3s are made in .308 at the first place (or not many people buy them).....Does anyone know which shop I should give it a try?
