Best Lightweight Deer Brush Gun

I spend a lot of time hunting in thick bush and have carried many different rifles over the years. I have probably hiked more miles with a Kimber Montana in 338 Federal than any other rifle by far but after purchasing my Howa Mini in 450 BM, it has quickly become my go to in the thick stuff. The 16" barrel and super light weight make it so handy. Converted to a hinged floor plate of course, the factory mag set up is absolute garbage in my opinion. Anyway, to me, rifles that are light and have a barrel 20" or shorter are the way to go when hunting the thick stuff.

No "best" rifle. Ask 100 different people, get 100 different answers. More a personal choice if you set parameters. Length of rifle, lightweight, adequate power, sights for fast acquisition, peep or low power scope mounted low. Action type not critical though a single shot might not be best for fast follow up shots.

Model 94 or 336 in 30-30, nothing fancy but does everything you need. IMO the flat sided lever is a dream to carry while stalking or pushing bush.

Browning BLR lightweight takedown in .308 shooting Accubonds is my bush gun. Leupold 2-7 for some zoomies. Takedown so I can access remote areas on my dirt bike.

44 mag is a 70yd deer gun, imo.

I have always hunted thick places, now I live coastal. Really, just use what would be considered a "normal" hunting rig. For example, a bolt action in any of probably 50 calibers, common variable dcope set at the lowest power. Say 2-7, 3-9; set at 2 or 3. The so called "brush busting" calibers are a often disproved fallacy.

Remington 760 pump carbine in 308, or rifle in 300 Savage. Equipped with a peep sight or a red dot.

This one is a 20" (30-06) cut down from 22". Makes a perfect bush gun, truck gun, jeep gun. :)

Fast, accurate, handles very well, carry friendly detachable mag, dependable, easy to scope, not overly expensive and not on a list to be banned.

The 30-06 gives it more flexibility for longer shots that may appear.
