Best Lightweight Deer Brush Gun

This nice old 308 win 18.5” Remington 600 Mohawk with a Lyman 4x was sitting in the used rack of my LGS for 430$ this week. Needs a proper butt pad. Not really that light but quite compact. Note the solid gold trigger ;) weaver mounts!
Gets a guy all excited…

I don't do them either. Many years ago, I shot the jaw off a deer one time and lost it. It died a slow and painful death.

Never again. Neck shots can be tricky too.

Dunno if either of you is in the minority...Agreed here too most of the time.

Conditions/range dependent.

Dunno how many times I've heard the stupidity of "take a head or neck shot, if you hit it goes down right there, if you miss its fine". No...theres lots of options to grievously wound.

My current favorite is my side gate Henry leveraction 45 Colt, loaded with hot 300 grain home made hard cast bullets. Great as a short range deer rifle.

Nice blood trails and short tracking jobs?

Always had a soft spot for 45 C!

My henry big boy carbine 45colt is lite and quick to shoulder.
150 yrd would be max. Hand load’s push some screaming chunks of lead.

This. My dad hunted deer and moose here in NW Ontario fir 30+ years with just a 30-30 Winchester. Can't take any effective long range kill shots for the bigger animal but in the end it makes you a better hunter and the OP was asking about what is best in the bush, not the prairie.

It certainly does. I'm loading a 300 grain Lee bullet to Limbaugh specs. They certainly are effective on deer within a prescribed range. For me that is a maximum of 100 yards. Not to say they wouldn't kill out to 150. 100 is my comfort zone. 50-75 would be ideal for me.

350 Rem mag 600 with a model 7 stock, 1.5-5 scope gets it done in the bush one of the many rifles I should have kept.

I’m seeing 300g @ 1500fps and 250g @ 1700fps with LilGun
I also have a Fx-2.5 on it.

After 150 it drops like a rock.
