I'm looking at LPVOs to mount on a .308. Maybe a 1x6, 1x8 or 1x10. Something with clear glass, reliability, good reticle etc. What do you think is my best bet under $1000?

I would skip Vortex. Get a Discovery or an Arken. I think they are about the same with the Discovery a lot cheaper, also since the rings are included. Don't know the deal right now but I bought mine last year and it is great.

Is weight an issue? There’s a lot of options in the 20oz+ category, lighter options are few and far between.

What kind of reticle? Simple duplex style for more precision or fast acquisition ring w/dot style?

For under $1000 I think I would keep it at a 1-6 just cause you have better chances to have clearer glass the higher you go in magnification for the same price usually something has to go and clarity is the first one to go… might no see the difference.. but might!

Definitely following this thread, wanting a similar optic for my Ruger American Ranch in 223. Something that offers quick shots on the lower magnification range but also dial it up for a shot out to 400-500 yards on coyotes and other varmints.

Mostly target shooting and hunting out to 400 yds and some longer shots at bigger targets at maybe 800 yds
Sounds like maybe a Medium Power Variable Optic might be more suited to your target and longer range shooting interests.
The Medium Power scopes will give you a bigger objective lens and many of them will have adjustable paralax.
6X power range. (2-12, 3-18)
8X power range (2-16, 3-24)
