Best Lube/Grease For AR's

Break free CLP or the newer Sentinel brand CLP

Or unofficially Mobile1.

The Roteilla 0W40 is just a newer more advanced version of the mobile1 idea. G96 base and oil lube on high wear points works awesome even very cold or very warm. See previous thread on this regarding lubes and Test results.

Anyone ever try coconut oil or vegetable oil?[/QUOT

I lubed my 1892 rossi with coconut oil ..... the whole gun , stock and all ..... it soaked up tons of it . it smells nice and after I reworked the action a bit it is slick as snot .

I aslso use coconut oil on my ag42's .

it is also my goto oil when resizing cases ..... biggest thing here is it is non toxic and won't poison you like all the other lubes out there .

I used CLP\breakfree exclusively for a decade plus. Never had an issue.
Now the only thing I use is froglube. Coldest I've been shooting with it is around -20ish. No issues.

Yup CLP was OK. Not great and the smell sucked. I used it for a short time but G96 came out on the RCMP list for approved products and there was a can in the cleaning room. When cleaning consisted of just wiping off the carbon, no horrible smell and much better extreme cold conditions for the G96 I never went back to CLP.

I've shot recreationally at -30 no problems. Except the cold sucks. I've had a duty pistol exposed in a holster sub -50 (real not wind chill). Again pistol functioned flawless.

On the other thread C77 posted some testing done by RCMP. Worth a read.

This is the info I was looking for. There are a few cans of G96 at my detachment as well. We know how the RCMP pick their products though, but your affirmation has reassured my continued use of G96. I have currently been using Froglube (on personal firearms and my duty pistol.) But I am having my doubts with the cold weather. I have to say since switching to Froglube last winter, I haven't had any issues. Until this winter. I don't know 100% if the lube is to blame but I have not been able to deterime any mechanical issues with my rifle. I have stripped the Froglube and went back to MPro7. I hope it's the lube and not the rifle.

You can brush your teeth with froglube

I bought froglube paste and find it a huge pain to apply so I stopped using it. ATM I have gone back to the old hoppes I had laying around but am thinking about going to g96 or just getting some Mobil1.

What do you mean a huge pain to apply?

Follow the instructions for the 1st application and you're pretty much good to go w/o any detailed field strips for many, many trips to the range.

I'm going to give FireClean a try on my next AR or pistol. Not because I don't like FrogLube or G96, both work really great, but just to try something else.

That's why I ordered a bottle. My Castrol Syntec 10W30 was serving me just fine, but I read a metric ton of good and constructive things about Fireclean from very respected and knowledgeable people in the industry, and the science backing it seemed valid, so I had to try it.

My AR's have never been so slick.

I'd like to try fireclean since it seems to be a more conventional application but nowhere local stocks it and can't justify paying 30$ shipped for it. The 20$/bottle is expensive as is but then when you add shipping it becomes not worth it. Perhaps when I order something that I need I will add one to the order.

I run Archoil in mine and not just because I sell it, because it works very well year round. I use the CLP to clean it and then add the extra step of the LP (optional) and wipe it almost dry. Have shot it in temps ranging from +30 to -20 and in the rain and snow without any issues at all.

Does Archoil AR4400 LP smell like it is petroleum based?

I'm debating on Archoil and Fireclean as my next lube to try.

I've found Froglube to be pretty much junk. I've been using M Pro 7 CLP for a few years now and it hasn't let me down. My old standby is Butch's Gun Oil, very good conventional gun oil.

I just found it a real drag to have to sit there with my ex-gf's blow dryer heating it up and applying it.

Yeah, I was getting frustrated by the application process as well. I purchased a couple of bottles of FireClean from CTCS last month and have applied it to my AR15 and handguns. I haven't had an opportunity to take them to the range yet, but I can tell a big difference already when doing small things like racking the pistol slides or cycling the charging handle.

I'm asking this for all dealers and CGNr who might be reading this thread - do any one of you in Ontario/Quebec carry FireClean?

I'd pick one up from CTCS right away, but $17 for the bottle and $15 for shipping isn't exactly my definition of a sound financial purchase!

CCAIN - when you switched over from FL to FC, did you completely field strip your firearms and cleaned them with say SimpleGreen, or another degreaser before applying FC?

Ditto.
