Looking for the best m14 style rifle for accuracy and price. I do not have knowledge or equipment to change barrells and have no idea what checking head space is so i want to know what is one of the best m14 style rifles dollar for dollar. Not really intrested in m305's as i hear of poor quality control and rifles that shoot the barrel clean off the reciver.

I won't comment on your m305 comment but instead answer your question directly. If you have the cash get a Springfield armory m1a supermatch and you'll have a great rifle right out of the box, a bit pricey but a great rifle. Otherwise you can buy a stock m305 or standard m1a and accurize. Lots of options and tinkering to be done with the m14/1a/305 platform. Love it.

I'm in the same boat. I've decided on a bone stock m305 because I'm not going to drop $2000 on a real M1A or M14.

I'd rather enjoy my time tinkering with a lot cost alternative and making something out of it.

Your metaphor is off: yes, you can 'eat' the Mc version - however, it is the 'buns' one keeps in a project rifle. The forged receiver. From the contents to condiments, is up to you at that point. Krieger barrels, Italian irons, black feather stocks, etc is now your choice: without paying $2k to start as "scratch."

And the best part with the 'norc is that you can afford ammo while you tinker with it. The same reason owners buy norinco 1911's.

I just dont like norinco, id rather spend 20 dollars for a gourmet hamburger then 2 for a McDouble

Norc fanboys and haters will be along soon but I have owned a whole bunch of stock M305's, a USGI M14-type rifle built on a M305 receiver, more than one or two M305's that our good friend the very well-respected M14Doc worked on, a Springfield Armory Inc (SAI) Loaded M1A, a SAI National Match and a LRB M25 Medium Match so I think I have enough experience with the platform to have a pretty good handle on what is out there.

For accuracy, a well-tweaked Norc can perform very well. For cost the Norc can't be beat. The SAI offerings - especially the National Match - are very, very sweet BUT when it comes to pure quality, fit, finish, accuracy and forged made in the USA receiver the LRB is hands-down the champ but that sweetness comes at a price. You won't get a lot of change out of $4500 when it lands and for that price you better make sure a M14-type rifle is really, really what you want.

Oh, did I mention that they can shoot:

I would happy spend 2000 dollars on a reciver of any other other make over norinco if i only had two choices i know there's many factorys making good recivers..just not intrested in norinco just want to know what my best option is.

Order an LRB complete rifle, from LRB and built by LRB , and don't look back.
I say that with a wee bit of experience under my belt

I have handled and shot 2 Rockola JRA's. Never really "worked" with their stuff as far as building.

^^^I thought the same...Ha! I topped out at just under $4K plus glass!!! Great rifle now tho:) only Chinese parts left are the receiver ( for good reason!) the barrel, the bolt and trigger group....all are quality parts with no need to replace I my books.

It's STILL my fav in the collection:)

An LRB built by LRB is a great choice, you should also look into an SEI built by SEI.

My personal favorites are M14s custom built by SEI on Norinco & Poly Tech receivers.

I would have put Smith enterprise at the top of the tier BUT i think availlablity to us canucks is still a bit hard to come by

i just got a smoking... bargain basement price on a basically brand new m1a supermatch that had full bolt roller contact with receiver under the roller and sheared the stud off the springfield inc bolt ....... I'm stripping it down scrapping the receiver and building it all back onto an early unmarked norinco receiver :D :D

Never had the gumption to start a thread like this but I'm happy to see your opinion Mr. 45ACPKING thanks!!

Both my SA NM M1A are very sweet shooters of the shelve, no modification except one is mounted with a CASM gen ll ... JP.

I will have to agree with a few, I've ordered four rifles from LRB in the last couple years, 2-m14sa's and 2-m25's, still have the pair of m25's and at a moments weakness I almost sold one of them last week, I took it to the range with a potential buyer and after putting 50 rounds of 168s Sierra match down range I decided there's no way I could let it go, as both of mine produce groups like the one tomochan posted. I'd love to get a SEI crazy horse one day as I've heard nothing but great things about them. If you can afford it order a LRB m25..... You'll thank me later.

a few guys have messaged me about the springer receiver I'm scrapping.
can't sell it boys, when the roller stud broke off after 30 rounds in, new from the box, the bolt slammed back so hard there is damage to the receiver. slight, but enough that it goes in the collection of scrapped receivers. would have been an easy remedy if caught prior to firing :(

I was unaware of the lack of SEI availability to canucks... I am looking forward to seeing your Norinco Supermatch.

The rifle comes with a lifetime warranty. If it were me, I'd get SAi to send me another...
