Anyone having good results with surplus ammo in their Mosin refurb snipers? I found Czech silver tip poor accuracy and failure to chamber on occasion. I tried some bronze colored steel case surplus rounds of unknown origin gave me 1'' groups at 100meters. Felt like light ball on recoil. Anyone try the recent Chinese stuff? Thanks!

Personally I avoid the milsurp ammo for my mosins. Most if not all of that ammo was loaded as MG ammo. This is important because in an MG a little dispersion of rounds is desirable (you get a bigger beaten zone that way) which makes the rounds less consistent than they could be. If you have gone to the trouble of building a mosin sniper you are best off loading for it. Hornady makes some nice .312 bullets that perform well.

Russian Silvertip Ball works fine, when you can find it. Haven't shot for group yet, but trajectory was matched to the range dial on the scope, at least to 300m which was max distance I tested so far.

Ah, but during the Great Patriotic War, that is all that could be had. However, snipers would be given pic of the litter in terms of ammo avaliablity to get the stuff that shot the best.

How about trying some WOLF smmo. I will also second PRVI. I don't have a sniper, but it groups WAY better out of my mosin than the surplus.

thanks, but.....

I know PRVI shooyts great, but it is not cheap. I'm looking to shoot abit more and reload less for awhile. Thanks for the info so far though.

If you can find it, Russian Surplus 7N1 should work well. Its specifically designed for sniper rifles. It was probably designed for the Dragunov, but might work well In SVT and Nagant snipers aswell.

Anyone know the gr of the Chinese surplus corrosive in the 440 round silver cans. It corrosive and 61 production. I had good results in both my mosin and svt
