Just wondering what everyone's favorite affordable CRF rifle is? I'm leaning towards the CZ-550. I've never really been into the Rugers. Haven't had a chance to handle a Winchester yet. What are my other options? Thoughts/experiences/likes/dislikes?

Your question about Winchesters...... I had two a Super Grade and Super Express both a crf feed system. They were smooth feeding but fit and finish sucked. Remington has the 798 but they are not all that fancy.

550s might be a good option too but look at the HVAs Sun and Steel mentioned.

What chambering?

I'm thinking 6.5x55 or .25-06, maybe .280

If you're looking for 6.5x55 tradex is a great bet.

I read in another thread that Remington isn't making the 798 (well rebranding Zastavas anyway) anymore. No one confirmed it when I asked in the thread though.

I have a Remington 798 in .243, fit and finish on it I have to say is very nice. It has the laminated stock. The polishing and blue is excellent.

The action on mine was very smooth right out of the gate, trigger however, needs some work. All lawyered up. But, it is fully adjustable. It's the same trigger from way back in the Interarms Mark X days.....

WSS in Calgary has a bunch of 798's in stock, all calibers, 699.00.

Remington, I'm pretty sure has discontinued the 798, but I am sure Charles Daly, or others, will resume importing them from Zastava.

I know some have complained that the action was rough on theirs, on mine however, it isn't.

To the OP, check out Tradex first for an affordable, used, CRF. Some good ones still there, most of them are in 30.06.

I like Huskys, Brnos, and Winchesters. I was also very fond of my M-17 Enfield .30/06. Yes it was heavy, and clunky, and not particularly appealing to the eye. The factory drilled holes in the receiver did not line up, so I slotted the rear hole in the Weaver mount and epoxied it in place. It wore a cheap Bushnell 3-9X40 Trophy scope in Weaver rings, but you know, I couldn't do anything wrong with that rifle. I just shot everything well.

Don't overlook older Huskys as an affordable, reliable CRF rifle. Check out Tradex.

Absolutely!

Anyone who doesn't grab a Husqvarna (or two or three!) now is going to be kicking themselves 10 years from now. They're an opportunity that just isn't going to be around for long, and so superior to the mass produced crap of today that there's no comparison.

I wouldn't trade one fine-condition HVA for two brand new Remingtons.
