What do you guys think the best modern day M/L is? Looking for a .50 cal break action. Possibly a bolt. Using a 209 primer. I'm thinking of switching to a B/P for most of my hunting with the exception of moose. What would you guys reccomend?

Dave.

Modern inline, black powder / pyrodex only? ......You can't go wrong with a T/C (Encore or Omega).

PS - Don't discount your muzzleloader for moose. I smacked a cow moose with a CVA Staghorn Magnum @ 106 yards a couple of seasons ago!!

There is only one Modern M/L,,The Savage 10MLII.Smokeless Powder M/L.
All the rest shoot Black Powder or BP Substitutes which means nightly cleaning and not seeing the reaction of your game animal to the shot..

If price is no issue...savage hands down. If you have a budget the nefs are a nice little gun. Any of the break barrel design guns seem to be pretty much bullet proof. Easy cleaning (removable breech plug), most come with optical mounts and sights, choice of blued or stainless for very little difference in cost (still have to clean a stainless!!!). All are rifled to shoot saboted bullets out to 100-150 yards.

This is the one you want.

Actually my very 1st muzzleloader was the NEF Huntsman(Just a coincidence with my username as I got mine from the Huntsman spider).
This is/was a great little muzzleloader for the price and quality(the only complaint is the "hokee" telescopic ram-rad).I got great groups with two 777 pellets and a Hornady 240 XTP,with 2" @100yds.I put a Bushnell Banner 1.5-4.5x32 whichn was IMO,a more than adequate scope if you choose to put optics on.
