Best Modular Pistols

I'm curious as to what are some of the best modular pistols and why? What are the best to strap optics on, lasers or other attachments, are used in military or not and are cheapest to highest price?
I'm curious on everyone's opinions on this, I've shot a few handguns before but I've been getting closer to buying a piece that would be good to invest into and that isn't gonna jam or corrode/rust!
Bonus points if there's an external safety on them, I hate that trigger safety that Glocks use honestly.

The Sig M17/18 will be the most modular pistol that features an on frame safety. You can change the grip module, slide, barrel, trigger etc. And you can strap optics and lights on it to your hearts content.

Oh damn! Thanks for all the replies, I'll definitely have to look into these! I've always had a love for the Berettas as well!

That's a nifty looking gun... the grip and magazines remind me a bit of the luger!
